Key Responsibilities
- Develop, implement, and maintain comprehensive Health & Safety policies and procedures.
- Conduct regular site inspections, risk assessments, and hazard analyses across the industrial estate.
- Ensure strict compliance with all local, national, and international occupational health and safety regulations and standards (e.g., Factories Act, OSHA).
- Organize, deliver, and evaluate effective H&S training programs for all levels of employees.
- Lead incident investigations, including accidents, near misses, and occupational illnesses, identifying root causes and recommending corrective actions.
- Maintain accurate H&S records, generate reports, and present findings to management.
- Advise management on H&S matters, emerging risks, and best practice implementation.
- Develop and manage emergency response plans, conduct drills, and ensure preparedness.
- Actively promote a robust safety culture and encourage proactive participation from all staff.
- Liaise with external regulatory bodies, auditors, and consultants during inspections and assessments.
Required Skills
- Proven experience (minimum 4 years) as a Health & Safety Officer in an industrial or manufacturing environment.
- In-depth knowledge of Nigerian occupational health and safety legislation and international best practices.
- Strong capabilities in risk assessment, hazard identification, and control measure implementation.
- Excellent written and verbal communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills.
- Proficiency in incident investigation, root cause analysis, and report writing.
- Demonstrated ability to develop and deliver engaging safety training programs.
- Strong analytical skills with a proactive approach to problem-solving.
- Competence in using Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
Preferred Qualifications
- NEBOSH International General Certificate (IGC) or equivalent recognized H&S qualification.
- Bachelor's Degree or Higher National Diploma in Environmental Health, Industrial Safety, or a related engineering/science field.
- Membership in a relevant professional body (e.g., Institute of Safety Professionals of Nigeria – ISPON, IOSH).
- Experience with ISO 45001 Occupational Health and Safety Management Systems.
- Certification in First Aid and Fire Safety.
