Career.supersecrets is seeking a highly motivated and experienced Health & Safety Officer to lead and manage all occupational health and safety aspects within a dynamic industrial estate setting in Aso Rock, Abuja. The successful candidate will be responsible for developing, implementing, and monitoring comprehensive health and safety programs tailored to the unique challenges of an industrial environment. This includes conducting regular site inspections, identifying potential hazards, and implementing corrective actions. You will lead incident investigations, analyze root causes, and recommend preventative measures to avoid recurrence. Key Responsibilities
- Develop, implement, and monitor comprehensive Health & Safety policies and procedures in line with national and international standards.
- Conduct regular site inspections and audits to identify potential hazards and ensure compliance with safety regulations.
- Lead and manage all aspects of incident investigation, including root cause analysis, reporting, and implementation of corrective and preventive actions.
- Develop and deliver engaging safety training programs for all levels of staff, contractors, and visitors.
- Oversee risk assessments for all operational activities, processes, and equipment, recommending and implementing control measures.
- Ensure strict adherence to environmental health and safety (EHS) regulations and maintain up-to-date knowledge of relevant legislation.
- Prepare and present detailed H&S reports to management, outlining performance, incidents, and improvement recommendations.
- Manage emergency response planning, drills, and protocols for the industrial estate.
- Promote a proactive safety culture through awareness campaigns, toolbox talks, and continuous engagement with employees.
- Liaise with regulatory bodies, external auditors, and stakeholders on all H&S matters.
Required Skills
- Proven experience as a Health & Safety Officer in an industrial or manufacturing environment.
- In-depth knowledge of Nigerian H&S legislation (e.g., Factories Act, OSHA) and international standards (e.g., ISO 45001).
- Strong understanding of risk assessment methodologies and hazard identification.
- Excellent communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to lead incident investigations and conduct root cause analysis.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
Preferred Qualifications
- NEBOSH International General Certificate (IGC) or equivalent certification.
- Bachelor's degree in Occupational Health & Safety, Environmental Science, Engineering, or a related field.
- Membership in a recognized professional safety body (e.g., ISPON).
- Experience with environmental management systems.
