Are you a seasoned Health & Safety professional with a passion for creating secure and compliant industrial environments? Career.supersecrets is seeking a dedicated and proactive Health & Safety Officer to join a dynamic team operating within a prominent industrial estate in Abuja. This role is pivotal in fostering a culture of safety, ensuring regulatory compliance, and protecting the well-being of all personnel and assets within the estate.

As a professional Health & Safety Officer, you will be instrumental in developing, implementing, and monitoring comprehensive safety programs tailored to the unique challenges of an industrial setting. You will be responsible for conducting thorough risk assessments, identifying potential hazards, and devising effective mitigation strategies to prevent incidents and promote a healthy work environment. Your expertise will guide the adherence to local and international safety standards, including OSHA and relevant Nigerian safety regulations, ensuring all operations meet or exceed required benchmarks.

This position demands a strong understanding of industrial processes, machinery safety, hazardous materials management, and emergency response planning. You will be a key figure in leading safety training initiatives, educating employees on best practices, and cultivating a proactive safety mindset across various tenants within the industrial estate. Beyond compliance, you will play a critical role in incident investigation, root cause analysis, and implementing corrective actions to prevent recurrence. Key Responsibilities

  • Develop, implement, and enforce robust Health and Safety policies, procedures, and programs tailored for an industrial estate.
  • Conduct regular risk assessments, safety audits, and inspections across the estate to identify hazards and ensure compliance with all applicable regulations and standards.
  • Investigate all incidents, accidents, and near-misses, determining root causes and recommending corrective and preventive actions.
  • Organize and deliver comprehensive safety training to all employees, contractors, and visitors, fostering a proactive safety culture.
  • Ensure strict adherence to local and international health and safety legislation, including OSHA and relevant Nigerian regulatory frameworks.
  • Prepare detailed safety reports, analyses, and performance metrics for management review, highlighting areas for improvement.
  • Manage emergency preparedness plans, including fire drills, first aid provisions, and evacuation procedures.

Required Skills

  • Proven experience as a Health & Safety Officer in an industrial or manufacturing environment.
  • Certified safety professional (e.g., NEBOSH IGC, OSHA, or equivalent).
  • Strong knowledge of Nigerian H&S regulations and international standards.
  • Excellent risk assessment and incident investigation skills.
  • Proficiency in developing and delivering safety training programs.
  • Exceptional communication, interpersonal, and leadership abilities.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Occupational Health and Safety, Environmental Science, Engineering, or a related field.
  • Membership in relevant professional safety organizations (e.g., IOSH, ISPON).
  • Certification in First Aid and CPR.
  • Experience with ISO 45001 implementation and auditing.
