Job Description
We are seeking a highly motivated and experienced Health & Safety Officer to join our team, working within a bustling industrial estate in Kuje, Abuja. This pivotal role requires a seasoned professional dedicated to fostering a culture of safety and ensuring compliance with all relevant occupational health and safety regulations. You will be instrumental in protecting our diverse workforce, safeguarding assets, and maintaining operational continuity across various industrial operations within the estate. Key Responsibilities
- Develop, implement, and monitor comprehensive Health & Safety policies and procedures in alignment with local regulations and international best practices.
- Conduct regular site inspections and audits across the industrial estate to identify potential hazards, non-compliance issues, and areas for improvement.
- Investigate all incidents, accidents, and near-misses, determining root causes and recommending corrective and preventive actions.
- Deliver effective health and safety training programs to staff, contractors, and visitors, promoting a strong safety-conscious culture.
- Prepare and maintain detailed reports on safety performance, incident statistics, audit findings, and compliance status for management review.
- Ensure all machinery, equipment, and work processes comply with safety standards and operational permits.
- Manage and maintain emergency response plans, including fire safety, first aid, and evacuation procedures.
- Liaise with regulatory bodies (e.g., OSHA, Factory Inspectorate) on all matters pertaining to health and safety compliance and permitting.
- Procure, manage, and ensure the proper use of personal protective equipment (PPE) across the estate.
- Champion continuous improvement initiatives in health and safety management systems.
Required Skills
- Proven experience as a Health & Safety Officer, preferably in an industrial or manufacturing environment.
- In-depth knowledge of Nigerian occupational health and safety regulations and standards.
- Strong understanding of risk assessment methodologies and hazard control techniques.
- Excellent communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
Preferred Qualifications
- NEBOSH International General Certificate (IGC) or equivalent certification.
- Bachelor's degree in Environmental Health & Safety, Engineering, or a related field.
- First Aid and CPR certification.
- Experience with ISO 45001 implementation and auditing.
- Membership in a recognized professional safety organization (e.g., ISPON).
