As our Health & Safety Officer, you will serve as the primary point of contact for all occupational health and safety matters, guiding diverse stakeholders through complex safety requirements and fostering a secure working environment for hundreds of employees across a multitude of industrial operations. This is not merely a compliance-focused role; it’s a significant opportunity to proactively shape and elevate the safety landscape of a vital industrial hub. You will be directly responsible for developing, diligently enforcing, and continuously improving safety procedures that effectively mitigate risks associated with heavy machinery, the handling of hazardous materials, complex logistics, and large-scale manufacturing processes.

Key Responsibilities
- Develop, implement, and monitor robust Health, Safety, and Environment (HSE) policies and procedures aligned with Nigerian regulations and international standards.
- Conduct regular, detailed risk assessments, safety audits, and inspections across the industrial estate to identify potential hazards and non-compliance issues.
- Lead incident investigations, conduct root cause analysis, and recommend effective corrective and preventative actions to avoid recurrence.
- Organize and deliver comprehensive HSE training programs for staff, contractors, and tenants on topics such as emergency response, hazard communication, and safe work practices.
- Ensure timely and accurate reporting of all HSE incidents, performance metrics, and compliance status to management and relevant authorities.
- Advise management and tenants on best practices for safe machinery operation, hazardous waste disposal, fire safety, and environmental protection measures.
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date records of safety inspections, training sessions, incidents, and professional certifications.
- Collaborate closely with facility managers, tenant representatives, and emergency services to develop and rigorously test emergency preparedness plans.
- Stay updated with new or revised HSE legislation and industry best practices, ensuring continuous compliance and driving improvement initiatives.
- Promote a strong, positive safety culture through regular communication, targeted safety campaigns, and active engagement with all stakeholders within the industrial estate.
Required Skills
- Proven experience (minimum 4 years) in occupational health and safety management, preferably within an industrial, manufacturing, or multi-tenant estate environment.
- In-depth knowledge of Nigerian HSE legislation (e.g., Factories Act, OSHA) and applicable international safety standards.
- Strong analytical skills for conducting thorough risk assessments and meticulous incident investigations.
- Excellent communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills to effectively train, influence, and engage various levels of personnel.
- Proficiency in developing, implementing, and managing HSE management systems.
- Ability to work independently, demonstrate initiative, and function effectively as part of a collaborative team in a fast-paced environment.
- High level of computer literacy, including proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
- Current First Aid and Fire Safety certification.
Preferred Qualifications
- NEBOSH International General Certificate (IGC) or an equivalent recognized HSE certification.
- Bachelor's degree in Environmental Safety, Occupational Health, Engineering, or a closely related field.
- Membership in a recognized professional safety body (e.g., IOSH, ISPON, OSHA).
- Demonstrable experience with ISO 45001 implementation and auditing processes.
- Specific experience managing health and safety within a multi-tenant industrial estate or complex commercial property.
