As the Health & Safety Officer, you will be the cornerstone of all occupational health and safety programs within the industrial estate. Key Responsibilities
- Develop, implement, and monitor occupational health and safety programs and policies in line with local regulations and international best practices.
- Conduct regular risk assessments, safety audits, and inspections across the industrial estate to identify potential hazards and ensure compliance.
- Investigate all incidents, accidents, and near-misses, determining root causes and recommending corrective and preventive actions.
- Organize and deliver comprehensive safety training sessions for employees, contractors, and visitors on various safety topics, including emergency procedures, first aid, and fire safety.
- Ensure the proper use, maintenance, and availability of personal protective equipment (PPE).
- Maintain accurate records of safety inspections, incidents, training, and compliance activities.
- Liaise with regulatory bodies, consultants, and emergency services as required.
- Prepare and present detailed health and safety reports to management, outlining performance, trends, and recommendations.
- Stay updated with new health and safety legislation, standards, and industry best practices.
- Develop and manage emergency response plans, including fire drills and evacuation procedures.
- Advise management on safety improvements, capital expenditures for safety equipment, and changes in operational procedures.
Required Skills
- Proven experience as a Health & Safety Officer in an industrial or manufacturing environment.
- Deep understanding of Nigerian health and safety legislation and regulations.
- Excellent knowledge of occupational health and safety standards (e.g., OSHA, ISO 45001).
- Strong risk assessment and hazard identification abilities.
- Proficiency in developing and delivering safety training programs.
- Exceptional communication, interpersonal, and presentation skills.
- Ability to conduct thorough incident investigations and root cause analysis.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
- Strong organizational and record-keeping skills.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team.
Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Environmental Safety, Industrial Safety, Engineering, or a related field.
- NEBOSH International General Certificate (IGC) or equivalent professional safety certification.
- Certification in First Aid and Fire Safety.
- Experience with safety management systems implementation.
- Fluency in local Nigerian languages relevant to the Zuba area (e.g., Hausa) is a plus.
