Job Description

Career.supersecrets is currently seeking a highly skilled and dedicated Health & Safety Officer to join a prominent industrial estate in Kado, Abuja. This pivotal role demands a seasoned professional committed to fostering an exemplary safety culture and ensuring strict adherence to all local and international health, safety, and environmental (HSE) regulations. As a Health & Safety Officer, you will be instrumental in developing, implementing, and monitoring comprehensive safety programs that protect employees, visitors, and property within a dynamic industrial setting. You will be expected to conduct regular risk assessments, identify potential hazards, and devise effective mitigation strategies. This position requires a proactive individual with a keen eye for detail, excellent communication skills, and the ability to train and influence staff at all levels. Your daily activities will involve not only reactive incident investigation but also proactive safety audits, regular inspections of machinery and facilities, and the promotion of best safety practices through engaging training sessions. The successful candidate will play a critical role in minimizing workplace accidents, ensuring operational continuity, and contributing significantly to the estate’s overall success and reputation for safety excellence. Key Responsibilities

  • Develop, implement, and maintain comprehensive Health and Safety policies and procedures aligned with national and international standards.
  • Conduct regular risk assessments, safety audits, and inspections across the industrial estate to identify hazards and ensure compliance.
  • Lead incident investigations, root cause analysis, and implement corrective and preventive actions to avoid recurrence.
  • Deliver effective HSE training programs to all employees, contractors, and visitors, fostering a strong safety-conscious culture.
  • Ensure all machinery, equipment, and work processes meet safety standards and actively promote the use of personal protective equipment (PPE).
  • Prepare and present detailed HSE reports, including incident statistics, audit findings, and compliance status to management.
  • Stay abreast of relevant HSE legislation, regulations, and industry best practices, ensuring the estate remains fully compliant.

Required Skills

  • Proven experience in an HSE role, preferably within an industrial or manufacturing environment.
  • Strong knowledge of Nigerian and international HSE legislation and standards (e.g., OSHA, ISO 45001).
  • Excellent communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills.
  • Proficiency in conducting risk assessments, safety audits, and incident investigations.
  • Ability to develop and deliver effective safety training programs.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).

Preferred Qualifications

  • NEBOSH International General Certificate (IGC) or equivalent HSE certification.
  • Professional membership with relevant HSE bodies (e.g., ISPON, IOSH).
  • Experience with environmental management systems (e.g., ISO 14001).
