Career.supersecrets is actively seeking a highly skilled and dedicated Health & Safety Officer to lead critical safety initiatives within a dynamic industrial estate environment located in Federal Secretariat, Abuja. Key Responsibilities
- Develop, implement, and monitor comprehensive Health & Safety policies and procedures aligned with local and international standards for industrial operations.
- Conduct regular site inspections and risk assessments within the industrial estate to identify potential hazards and ensure compliance with safety regulations.
- Investigate all incidents, accidents, and near-misses, determining root causes and recommending corrective and preventive actions.
- Organize and deliver engaging safety training programs and toolbox talks for employees, contractors, and visitors, enhancing safety awareness and competency.
- Ensure strict adherence to all relevant Nigerian regulatory requirements (e.g., Factories Act, OSHA) and industry best practices.
- Develop, review, and manage emergency response plans, including fire safety, first aid, and evacuation procedures.
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date records of safety inspections, training, incidents, and corrective actions.
- Provide expert advice and guidance to management and staff on all health, safety, and environmental matters.
- Promote a positive and proactive safety culture throughout the industrial estate through consistent communication and visible leadership.
- Monitor contractor safety performance and ensure compliance with site-specific safety rules.
- Prepare and present periodic H&S performance reports to management, highlighting trends and areas for improvement.
Required Skills
- Proven experience as a Health & Safety Officer in an industrial or manufacturing environment.
- Internationally recognized H&S qualifications (e.g., NEBOSH IGC, IOSH Managing Safely).
- Expertise in conducting risk assessments, hazard identification, and incident investigation.
- Strong knowledge of Nigerian health and safety legislation and regulatory frameworks.
- Excellent communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to develop and deliver effective safety training programs.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and H&S management software.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities with keen attention to detail.
- Demonstrated ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Capability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced industrial setting.
Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Environmental Health, Safety Management, Engineering, or a related field.
- Membership in a recognized professional safety body (e.g., ISPON, IOSH).
- First Aid and CPR certification.
- Experience with ISO 45001 (Occupational Health and Safety Management System).
- Certification in specific industrial safety areas (e.g., confined spaces, working at height).
