This pivotal role requires a professional with a robust understanding of occupational safety regulations, risk management, and a commitment to cultivating a strong safety culture across various industrial operations. You will be instrumental in ensuring the highest standards of health and safety are maintained, protecting both personnel and assets within a sprawling industrial complex. Key Responsibilities

  • Develop, implement, and monitor comprehensive Health & Safety policies and procedures in line with national and international standards.
  • Conduct regular risk assessments, safety audits, and inspections across the industrial estate to identify potential hazards and ensure compliance.
  • Investigate all incidents, accidents, and near misses, determining root causes and recommending corrective and preventative actions.
  • Organize and deliver safety training programs for workers and contractors, promoting a strong safety culture and awareness.
  • Ensure all operations comply with relevant regulatory requirements, including those from OSHA, NESREA, and other local authorities.
  • Prepare and maintain detailed safety records, reports, and documentation for internal review and external regulatory bodies.
  • Advise management on health and safety performance, statutory requirements, and industry best practices.
  • Oversee the proper use, maintenance, and inspection of personal protective equipment (PPE).
  • Liaise with emergency services and organize emergency preparedness drills and procedures.
  • Manage waste disposal protocols and environmental compliance within the industrial estate.

Required Skills

  • Proven experience as a Health & Safety Officer in an industrial or manufacturing environment.
  • In-depth knowledge of Nigerian occupational health and safety legislation and best practices.
  • Strong understanding of risk assessment methodologies and hazard identification.
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, and presentation skills to effectively train and engage personnel.
  • Ability to conduct thorough incident investigations and develop robust corrective action plans.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
  • Strong organizational skills with attention to detail and ability to manage multiple priorities.
  • Problem-solving aptitude and the ability to act decisively in critical situations.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Environmental Health & Safety, Engineering, or a related field.
  • Professional certifications such as NEBOSH IGC, IOSH Managing Safely, or equivalent.
  • Experience with ISO 45001 implementation and auditing.
  • Knowledge of specific industrial processes and associated safety risks (e.g., heavy machinery, chemical handling).
  • First Aid and CPR certification.
