Key Responsibilities
- Develop, implement, and monitor comprehensive Health & Safety policies and procedures in line with national and international standards.
- Conduct regular risk assessments, safety audits, and inspections across the industrial estate to identify potential hazards and ensure compliance.
- Investigate all incidents, accidents, and near misses, determining root causes and recommending corrective and preventative actions.
- Organize and deliver safety training programs for workers and contractors, promoting a strong safety culture and awareness.
- Ensure all operations comply with relevant regulatory requirements, including those from OSHA, NESREA, and other local authorities.
- Prepare and maintain detailed safety records, reports, and documentation for internal review and external regulatory bodies.
- Advise management on health and safety performance, statutory requirements, and industry best practices.
- Oversee the proper use, maintenance, and inspection of personal protective equipment (PPE).
- Liaise with emergency services and organize emergency preparedness drills and procedures.
- Manage waste disposal protocols and environmental compliance within the industrial estate.
Required Skills
- Proven experience as a Health & Safety Officer in an industrial or manufacturing environment.
- In-depth knowledge of Nigerian occupational health and safety legislation and best practices.
- Strong understanding of risk assessment methodologies and hazard identification.
- Excellent communication, interpersonal, and presentation skills to effectively train and engage personnel.
- Ability to conduct thorough incident investigations and develop robust corrective action plans.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
- Strong organizational skills with attention to detail and ability to manage multiple priorities.
- Problem-solving aptitude and the ability to act decisively in critical situations.
Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Environmental Health & Safety, Engineering, or a related field.
- Professional certifications such as NEBOSH IGC, IOSH Managing Safely, or equivalent.
- Experience with ISO 45001 implementation and auditing.
- Knowledge of specific industrial processes and associated safety risks (e.g., heavy machinery, chemical handling).
- First Aid and CPR certification.
