Key Responsibilities
- Develop, implement, and monitor occupational health and safety policies, programs, and procedures in line with national and international standards.
- Conduct regular risk assessments, hazard identification, and safety audits across all operational areas within the industrial estate.
- Investigate all accidents, incidents, and near-misses thoroughly, determining root causes and recommending corrective and preventative actions.
- Organize and deliver comprehensive health and safety training sessions to employees, contractors, and new hires.
- Ensure strict compliance with all relevant Nigerian health and safety legislation (e.g., OSHE, Factories Act) and company-specific safety guidelines.
- Maintain accurate records of safety inspections, incidents, training, and compliance activities, preparing detailed reports for management.
- Provide expert advice and guidance to management and staff on all health and safety matters, promoting best practices and continuous improvement.
- Manage and coordinate emergency response plans, including fire safety, first aid, and evacuation procedures.
- Champion and promote a positive and proactive safety culture throughout the organization.
Required Skills
- NEBOSH International General Certificate (IGC) or equivalent recognized H&S qualification.
- Minimum of 4 years of progressive experience in a Health & Safety role, preferably within an industrial, manufacturing, or heavy industry setting.
- In-depth knowledge of Nigerian occupational health and safety regulations (e.g., OSHE, Factories Act) and standards.
- Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to engage effectively at all organizational levels.
- Proven proficiency in conducting thorough risk assessments, incident investigations, and safety audits.
- Demonstrated ability to develop and deliver effective safety training programs.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving capabilities, with attention to detail.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Occupational Safety and Health, Environmental Science, Engineering, or a related technical field.
- Professional membership with relevant bodies such as the Institute of Safety Professionals of Nigeria (ISPON) or IOSH.
- Experience with the implementation and maintenance of ISO 45001 Occupational Health and Safety Management Systems.
- Valid First Aid and CPR certification.
- Previous experience in a large-scale manufacturing or industrial estate environment.
