As the Health & Safety Officer, you will be the primary custodian of safety standards within a bustling industrial complex. Your day-to-day will involve conducting rigorous risk assessments, developing and implementing comprehensive safety policies and procedures, and leading safety training initiatives for all personnel. We are looking for an individual with a proactive approach to hazard identification, meticulous in their inspections, and effective in their communication of safety protocols. The ideal candidate will possess a deep understanding of industrial safety challenges, from machinery operation to chemical handling, and be adept at fostering a collaborative environment where safety is everyone’s responsibility. Key Responsibilities
- Develop, implement, and monitor robust Health, Safety, and Environmental (HSE) policies and procedures in line with national and international standards.
- Conduct regular site inspections and risk assessments to identify potential hazards and ensure compliance with safety regulations.
- Investigate accidents, incidents, and near-misses, preparing detailed reports and recommending corrective actions to prevent recurrence.
- Organize and deliver comprehensive safety training programs for all employees, contractors, and visitors.
- Ensure all industrial equipment and machinery comply with safety standards and operational protocols.
- Manage waste disposal and environmental protection initiatives within the industrial estate.
- Maintain accurate records of safety inspections, incidents, training, and compliance activities.
- Advise management on new safety legislation and best practices.
- Coordinate with emergency services and lead emergency preparedness drills.
Required Skills
- Proven experience as a Health & Safety Officer, particularly in an industrial or manufacturing environment.
- In-depth knowledge of Nigerian HSE legislation (e.g., Factories Act, OSHA) and international safety standards (e.g., ISO 45001).
- Strong analytical skills for conducting risk assessments and incident investigations.
- Excellent communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills.
- Proficiency in using safety management software and Microsoft Office Suite.
- Ability to develop and deliver effective safety training programs.
- Strong problem-solving and decision-making abilities.
Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Occupational Health and Safety, Environmental Science, Engineering, or a related field.
