Key Responsibilities
- Develop, implement, and monitor robust health and safety policies and procedures in line with national and international standards.
- Conduct regular risk assessments and safety audits across the industrial estate to identify potential hazards and implement corrective actions.
- Ensure strict compliance with all relevant health and safety legislation, including OSHA, Factories Act, and other Nigerian regulatory requirements.
- Lead incident investigations, identify root causes, and recommend preventive measures to avoid recurrence.
- Organize and deliver comprehensive health and safety training programs for all employees, contractors, and visitors.
- Maintain accurate records of safety inspections, incidents, training, and emergency drills.
- Advise management on health and safety best practices and new legislative requirements.
- Manage emergency response plans and coordinate emergency drills.
- Oversee the proper storage, handling, and disposal of hazardous materials.
- Collaborate with departmental heads to promote a proactive safety culture throughout the industrial estate.
Required Skills
- Proven experience as a Health & Safety Officer, preferably in an industrial or manufacturing environment.
- In-depth knowledge of health and safety regulations and compliance standards in Nigeria.
- Strong understanding of risk assessment methodologies and hazard identification.
- Excellent communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to conduct thorough incident investigations and root cause analysis.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Environmental Health, Occupational Safety, Engineering, or a related field.
- Professional certification such as NEBOSH (IGC or Diploma), IOSH, or equivalent.
- First Aid and Fire Safety certification.
- Experience with safety management systems (e.g., ISO 45001).
- Demonstrated experience in a multi-site or large industrial complex.
