Job Description

Are you a seasoned Health & Safety professional with a passion for creating secure and compliant industrial environments? Career.supersecrets is seeking a highly motivated and experienced Health & Safety Officer to join a leading industrial estate in Nyanya, Abuja. This pivotal role requires a proactive individual committed to upholding the highest safety standards, mitigating risks, and fostering a robust safety culture across diverse industrial operations. You will be instrumental in developing, implementing, and monitoring comprehensive safety programs, ensuring strict adherence to both national and international safety regulations.

The industrial estate is a vibrant hub of manufacturing, logistics, and various industrial activities, presenting a dynamic and challenging environment for a dedicated H&S expert. Your expertise will be crucial in safeguarding personnel, protecting assets, and promoting operational efficiency without compromise to safety. Key Responsibilities

  • Develop, implement, and maintain comprehensive Health and Safety policies, procedures, and management systems in line with national and international standards (e.g., OSHA, ISO 45001).
  • Conduct regular risk assessments, safety audits, and inspections across the industrial estate to identify potential hazards and ensure compliance.
  • Investigate all incidents, accidents, and near-misses, determining root causes and implementing corrective and preventive actions.
  • Organize and deliver effective Health and Safety training programs, workshops, and toolbox talks for all employees and contractors.
  • Ensure strict compliance with all relevant Nigerian H&S regulations, including the Factories Act, HSE guidelines, and other applicable local laws.
  • Maintain accurate records of H&S incidents, training, inspections, and compliance activities.
  • Manage emergency preparedness plans, including fire safety, first aid provisions, and evacuation procedures.
  • Advise management on H&S matters, recommending improvements and cost-effective solutions to enhance safety performance.
  • Liaise with regulatory bodies, external auditors, and other stakeholders on H&S-related issues.
  • Promote a positive safety culture through effective communication, engagement, and leadership.

Required Skills

  • NEBOSH International General Certificate (IGC) or equivalent professional qualification.
  • Minimum of 5 years of proven experience as a Health & Safety Officer in an industrial or manufacturing environment.
  • In-depth knowledge of Nigerian occupational health and safety legislation and best practices.
  • Strong understanding of risk assessment methodologies and hazard identification.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to deliver engaging training sessions.
  • Proficiency in incident investigation and root cause analysis techniques.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a dynamic environment.
  • Computer literacy, including Microsoft Office Suite.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Occupational Health and Safety, Environmental Science, Engineering, or a related field.
  • Professional membership with relevant bodies such as ISPON (Institute of Safety Professionals of Nigeria) or WSO (World Safety Organization).
  • Experience with environmental management systems (ISO 14001).
  • First Aid and CPR certification.
  • Experience in an industrial estate with diverse operational activities.
