Key Responsibilities
- Develop, implement, and maintain comprehensive Health and Safety policies, procedures, and management systems in line with national and international standards (e.g., OSHA, ISO 45001).
- Conduct regular risk assessments, safety audits, and inspections across the industrial estate to identify potential hazards and ensure compliance.
- Investigate all incidents, accidents, and near-misses, determining root causes and implementing corrective and preventive actions.
- Organize and deliver effective Health and Safety training programs, workshops, and toolbox talks for all employees and contractors.
- Ensure strict compliance with all relevant Nigerian H&S regulations, including the Factories Act, HSE guidelines, and other applicable local laws.
- Maintain accurate records of H&S incidents, training, inspections, and compliance activities.
- Manage emergency preparedness plans, including fire safety, first aid provisions, and evacuation procedures.
- Advise management on H&S matters, recommending improvements and cost-effective solutions to enhance safety performance.
- Liaise with regulatory bodies, external auditors, and other stakeholders on H&S-related issues.
- Promote a positive safety culture through effective communication, engagement, and leadership.
Required Skills
- NEBOSH International General Certificate (IGC) or equivalent professional qualification.
- Minimum of 5 years of proven experience as a Health & Safety Officer in an industrial or manufacturing environment.
- In-depth knowledge of Nigerian occupational health and safety legislation and best practices.
- Strong understanding of risk assessment methodologies and hazard identification.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to deliver engaging training sessions.
- Proficiency in incident investigation and root cause analysis techniques.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a dynamic environment.
- Computer literacy, including Microsoft Office Suite.
Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Occupational Health and Safety, Environmental Science, Engineering, or a related field.
- Professional membership with relevant bodies such as ISPON (Institute of Safety Professionals of Nigeria) or WSO (World Safety Organization).
- Experience with environmental management systems (ISO 14001).
- First Aid and CPR certification.
- Experience in an industrial estate with diverse operational activities.
