Job Description

Career.supersecrets is seeking a highly skilled and proactive Health & Safety Officer to join our client’s dynamic team within a prominent industrial estate in Bwari, Abuja. This pivotal role requires a seasoned professional with a deep understanding of occupational health and safety regulations, industrial risk management, and environmental compliance. You will be instrumental in developing, implementing, and monitoring robust H&S programs designed to protect our workforce, prevent incidents, and ensure a culture of safety excellence across all operational facets of the industrial estate. This is an exciting opportunity for an individual passionate about fostering a zero-harm environment, driving continuous improvement, and safeguarding human capital in a complex industrial setting.

The successful candidate will serve as the primary point of contact for all health and safety matters, providing expert guidance and support to management and employees alike. You will be responsible for conducting regular inspections, risk assessments, and incident investigations, ensuring that all findings lead to effective corrective and preventive actions. We are looking for a professional who can not only enforce standards but also inspire a collective commitment to safety through engaging training, clear communication, and exemplary leadership. Your work will directly contribute to operational efficiency, regulatory adherence, and the overall well-being of hundreds of employees within a bustling industrial environment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop, implement, and monitor comprehensive Health & Safety policies and procedures in alignment with local regulations and international best practices.
  • Conduct regular site inspections, risk assessments, and safety audits to identify hazards and ensure compliance.
  • Investigate all accidents, incidents, and near misses, determining root causes and recommending effective preventive measures.
  • Organize and deliver health and safety training programs for all levels of employees, fostering a strong safety culture.
  • Manage and maintain all H&S documentation, including permits, records, and reports.
  • Ensure compliance with environmental protection standards and waste management protocols within the industrial estate.
  • Liaise with regulatory bodies, emergency services, and internal stakeholders on all H&S-related matters.
  • Lead emergency preparedness and response planning, including drills and evacuation procedures.
  • Promote occupational health initiatives, including wellness programs and ergonomic assessments.
  • Stay abreast of new legislation and industry standards, ensuring the organization remains compliant and proactive.

Required Skills

  • Proven experience as a Health & Safety Officer in an industrial or manufacturing environment.
  • Strong knowledge of Nigerian H&S legislation (e.g., Factories Act, OSHA) and international standards (e.g., ISO 45001).
  • Excellent risk assessment and incident investigation skills.
  • Proficiency in developing and delivering H&S training programs.
  • Exceptional communication, interpersonal, and leadership abilities.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).

Preferred Qualifications

  • NEBOSH International General Certificate (IGC) or equivalent H&S qualification.
  • Bachelor's degree in Environmental Health, Occupational Safety, Engineering, or a related field.
  • Membership in a recognized professional safety body (e.g., IOSH, ISPON).
  • Experience with environmental management systems (e.g., ISO 14001).
  • First Aid and Fire Safety certification.
