Career.supersecrets is proud to partner with a distinguished private estate situated in the picturesque countryside surrounding York, England, to recruit an experienced and dedicated Live-in Groundskeeper. As the Live-in Groundskeeper, you will be integral to preserving the aesthetic appeal and ecological health of the estate’s extensive grounds, gardens, and surrounding areas. Key Responsibilities
- Perform regular mowing, strimming, and edging of lawns and grassed areas to a high standard.
- Manage planting, pruning, weeding, and watering of flower beds, shrubberies, and borders.
- Maintain hedges, trees, and pathways, ensuring they are clear, safe, and immaculately presented.
- Operate and maintain a range of garden machinery and tools safely and effectively, including mowers, trimmers, leaf blowers, and hedge cutters.
- Implement pest and disease control measures to protect plants and garden features.
- Oversee irrigation systems, making adjustments and performing minor repairs as needed.
- Undertake general estate maintenance tasks, including minor repairs to fences, gates, and outdoor structures.
- Manage waste and compost systems, ensuring cleanliness and adherence to environmental standards.
- Monitor and report on the condition of grounds and equipment, recommending improvements or necessary repairs.
- Assist with seasonal planting schemes, landscaping projects, and special events as directed by the estate manager.
- Ensure the security of the grounds and outbuildings during off-hours, providing a watchful presence.
Required Skills
- Proven experience (minimum 2 years) in groundskeeping or professional horticulture.
- Strong knowledge of plant care, gardening techniques, and seasonal maintenance schedules.
- Proficiency in operating and safely maintaining various garden machinery and equipment.
- Ability to work independently, manage time effectively, and prioritize tasks.
- Excellent attention to detail and a proactive approach to problem-solving.
- Physical fitness and ability to perform demanding outdoor tasks in all weather conditions.
- Full, clean UK driving license.
- Strong communication skills and a reliable work ethic.
Preferred Qualifications
- NVQ Level 2 or equivalent qualification in Horticulture or Landscaping.
- PA1/PA6 spraying certificates for pesticide application.
- Experience working on private estates or high-end residential properties.
- Basic carpentry or general property maintenance skills.
- Chainsaw certificate (CS30/31).
