Job Description

Douglas Wine Cellar invites dedicated and enthusiastic individuals to join our team as a Seasonal Grape Harvester for the upcoming harvest season. This is a pivotal role in our winemaking process, offering an opportunity to be at the very heart of viticulture in the beautiful Northern Cape. You will be responsible for carefully hand-picking grapes, ensuring the highest quality selection that forms the foundation of our acclaimed wines. The work is physically demanding but incredibly rewarding, set against the backdrop of our expansive vineyards and under the vast South African sky.

While the core of your daily work will be hands-on in the vineyards, meticulously harvesting grapes under the guidance of our experienced vineyard managers, this role incorporates an essential element of ‘hybrid’ engagement. This means that beyond the field, you will be expected to participate in important pre-harvest briefings, essential safety inductions, and post-harvest debrief sessions. These crucial coordination and learning activities may take place in our on-site administrative facilities, communal areas, or designated outdoor spaces, allowing for a blend of intensive field work with vital team communication, training, and quality control discussions. This ensures everyone is aligned, informed, and contributes to our stringent quality standards from the vine to the cellar, fostering a comprehensive understanding of the harvest journey.

We are looking for individuals who possess a strong work ethic, keen attention to detail, and the ability to work effectively as part of a close-knit team. No prior experience in grape harvesting is strictly required, as comprehensive on-the-job training will be provided to ensure you are confident and skilled in your tasks. This seasonal position offers a unique chance to experience the vibrant culture of a working vineyard, learn about the art of winemaking from the ground up, and contribute directly to the production of premium South African wines. If you thrive in an outdoor environment, enjoy physical work, and are eager to play a vital role in bringing in a successful harvest, we encourage you to apply and become an integral part of our viticultural heritage. Join us in cultivating not just grapes, but also a rewarding experience for yourself and for the future of fine wine.
