Job Description
We are seeking a highly motivated and experienced Grain Silo Manager to oversee the comprehensive operations of our grain storage facilities in Harare. This pivotal role involves managing the efficient intake, storage, quality control, and dispatch of various grains, ensuring compliance with all regulatory standards and company policies. The successful candidate will be responsible for optimising silo capacity, implementing best practices in grain preservation, and leading a dedicated team to achieve operational excellence. The Grain Silo Manager will play a critical role in maintaining our high standards of product quality and food safety, directly impacting our ability to deliver essential food products to the Zimbabwean market. Key Responsibilities
- Manage and supervise all day-to-day operations of the grain silo, including grain intake, storage, drying, cleaning, and dispatch.
- Implement and enforce strict quality control procedures for all incoming and outgoing grain, conducting regular inspections and sampling.
- Oversee inventory management, ensuring accurate record-keeping, stock rotation, and minimization of losses.
- Develop and execute grain preservation strategies, including pest control, aeration, and fumigation, to maintain grain quality.
- Ensure compliance with all national and international food safety standards, environmental regulations, and occupational health and safety protocols.
- Lead, mentor, and develop a team of silo operators and staff, fostering a culture of safety, efficiency, and teamwork.
- Coordinate with procurement, production, and logistics departments to ensure timely and efficient grain flow.
- Manage the maintenance schedule for all silo equipment, machinery, and infrastructure, ensuring optimal functionality and minimal downtime.
- Prepare comprehensive reports on silo operations, grain stock levels, quality parameters, and performance metrics.
- Identify and implement process improvements to enhance efficiency, reduce costs, and improve grain quality.
- Manage budgets related to silo operations, including maintenance, utilities, and staffing.
Required Skills
- Minimum of 5 years of progressive experience in grain storage and management, preferably in a large-scale agricultural or food processing environment.
- Proven experience with grain handling equipment, storage systems, and quality control instruments.
- Strong understanding of grain preservation techniques, pest management, and food safety standards (e.g., HACCP, ISO 22000).
- Excellent leadership, team management, and interpersonal communication skills.
- Proficiency in inventory management software and basic office applications.
- Demonstrated problem-solving abilities and a proactive approach to operational challenges.
- High degree of attention to detail and commitment to accuracy.
- Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced and physically demanding environment.
Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Agricultural Science, Food Science, Engineering, or a related field.
- Certifications in grain management, food safety, or quality assurance.
- Experience with integrated pest management (IPM) strategies for stored grains.
- Knowledge of relevant Zimbabwean agricultural regulations and standards.
