Job Description
The Government Affairs Director will be a pivotal leader, responsible for advancing HCA Florida Healthcare’s legislative and regulatory agenda in the North Port area and broader Sarasota County region. This strategic role involves developing and maintaining strong relationships with elected officials, government agencies, and community stakeholders. You will monitor, analyze, and interpret proposed legislation and regulations, assessing their potential impact on our operations, patients, and colleagues. The Director will craft compelling policy positions, represent HCA Florida Healthcare in various public forums, and advocate for policies that support our mission of providing high-quality, accessible healthcare. Key Responsibilities
- Develop and execute comprehensive government affairs strategies for the North Port and Sarasota County region.
- Cultivate and maintain strong, positive relationships with local, county, and state elected officials, their staff, and relevant government agency personnel.
- Monitor, analyze, and interpret legislative, regulatory, and political developments, providing timely insights and recommendations to senior leadership.
- Represent HCA Florida Healthcare at public hearings, community meetings, industry associations, and political events.
- Prepare and deliver clear, concise, and persuasive presentations, policy briefs, and advocacy materials.
- Work collaboratively with internal stakeholders (e.g., legal, operations, communications) to ensure alignment on policy positions and advocacy efforts.
- Identify and engage with key community partners and advocacy groups to build coalitions and advance shared interests.
- Advise leadership on political trends, stakeholder dynamics, and potential risks or opportunities.
- Ensure compliance with all lobbying laws and ethics regulations.
- Manage and track legislative initiatives and policy outcomes relevant to the healthcare sector.
Required Skills
- Proven experience (minimum 8 years) in government affairs, public policy, or legislative advocacy.
- Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, including public speaking and persuasive writing.
- Strong analytical abilities to interpret complex legislation and regulatory documents.
- Demonstrated ability to build and maintain effective working relationships with diverse stakeholders.
- Deep understanding of local, county, and state government processes and political dynamics in Florida.
- Strategic thinking with the ability to anticipate and respond to political challenges and opportunities.
- High level of integrity and ethical conduct.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and experience with legislative tracking software.
Preferred Qualifications
- Master's degree in Public Policy, Political Science, Law, Business Administration, or related field.
- Previous experience working within a healthcare system, hospital, or related industry.
- Prior experience as a legislative staffer, government agency official, or elected official.
- Established network of contacts within the Florida legislative and executive branches, particularly in Sarasota County.
- Experience with crisis communications and issue management.
