Job Description
We are actively seeking a highly skilled, meticulous, and experienced Gemstone Polisher to join our expert production team in Harare. This pivotal role requires an exceptional eye for detail, a steady hand, and a comprehensive understanding of various gemstone characteristics, cutting styles, and advanced polishing techniques. As a Gemstone Polisher, you will be instrumental in our value addition process, responsible for transforming rough-cut or pre-formed gemstones into their final brilliant, lustrous, and marketable form. Key Responsibilities
- Carefully prepare gemstones for the polishing process, which may include cleaning, inspection, and minor pre-shaping adjustments.
- Operate various sophisticated polishing machines and tools (e.g., polishing laps, buffing wheels, vibratory polishers) with precision and expertise.
- Select and apply the most appropriate abrasives, polishing compounds, and techniques based on the specific gemstone type, its hardness, and the desired final finish.
- Meticulously monitor the polishing process, consistently adjusting pressure, speed, and angle to achieve optimal luster, eliminate surface imperfections, and prevent damage.
- Perform stringent quality control checks throughout all polishing stages to ensure strict adherence to company standards, client specifications, and international quality benchmarks.
- Identify and skillfully address any defects, scratches, or inconsistencies that may arise during the polishing process.
- Proactively maintain and calibrate all polishing equipment, ensuring tools are always in excellent, ready-to-use working condition.
- Accurately record production data, including stone type, weight, and processing details, and maintain comprehensive logs of work completed.
- Adhere strictly to all company safety protocols and maintain a clean, organized, and safe workspace at all times.
- Collaborate effectively with gemstone cutters, sorters, and other production team members to ensure a seamless and efficient workflow.
- Stay updated on emerging polishing techniques, new materials, and industry best practices through continuous learning and development.
Required Skills
- Minimum of 2 years of proven, hands-on experience as a Gemstone Polisher or in a highly similar precision craftsmanship role.
- Exceptional manual dexterity, fine motor skills, and superior hand-eye coordination.
- A keen and discerning eye for detail, combined with a strong aesthetic sense for gemstone beauty.
- In-depth knowledge of various gemstone types, their inherent hardness, specific cleavage planes, and unique polishing requirements.
- Proficiency in operating, calibrating, and maintaining a range of gemstone polishing equipment and tools.
