Job Description
As a Gas Plant Operator at Kuwait National Petroleum Company (KNPC), you will be a critical member of our operations team, responsible for the safe, efficient, and reliable operation of our state-of-the-art gas processing facilities. Your primary role will involve monitoring and controlling various processes, including gas compression, liquefaction, separation, and treatment, ensuring they adhere strictly to established operational procedures, safety standards, and environmental regulations. This challenging role demands a keen eye for detail, strong problem-solving skills, and the ability to react quickly and effectively to operational changes or emergencies. You will work within a dynamic environment, utilizing advanced control systems (DCS/SCADA) to maintain optimal plant performance, troubleshoot issues, and contribute to the overall productivity and safety of the plant. A deep understanding of gas processing technologies, equipment functionality, and process instrumentation is essential. You will also be expected to participate in routine inspections, equipment startups and shutdowns, and collaborate closely with maintenance and engineering teams to ensure seamless plant operations. Key Responsibilities
- Operate and monitor gas processing equipment, including compressors, pumps, turbines, heat exchangers, and control systems (DCS/SCADA).
- Perform routine checks, inspections, and adjustments to ensure optimal plant performance and adherence to operational parameters.
- Respond promptly and effectively to alarms, process upsets, and emergencies, initiating appropriate corrective actions.
- Conduct equipment startups, shutdowns, and changeovers in accordance with standard operating procedures (SOPs).
- Monitor product quality and adjust process variables to meet specifications, taking samples for laboratory analysis as required.
- Maintain accurate operational logs, records, and reports, documenting all activities, incidents, and performance data.
- Collaborate with maintenance personnel during equipment repairs, troubleshooting, and preventive maintenance activities.
- Ensure strict compliance with all safety regulations, environmental policies, and company procedures.
- Identify opportunities for process optimization and contribute to continuous improvement initiatives.
- Participate in safety drills, training programs, and toolbox talks to enhance safety awareness and operational proficiency.
Required Skills
- Proven experience as a Gas Plant Operator or similar role in the oil and gas industry.
- Strong understanding of gas processing principles, equipment, and control systems.
- Proficiency in reading and interpreting P&IDs, process flow diagrams, and operating manuals.
- Excellent troubleshooting and problem-solving abilities.
- Solid knowledge of industrial safety practices and environmental regulations.
- Ability to work effectively in a team-oriented environment and communicate clearly.
- Physical fitness to perform duties in an industrial plant environment, including climbing stairs and working in various weather conditions.
- High School Diploma or equivalent; technical certification or diploma in chemical, mechanical, or instrumentation engineering.
Preferred Qualifications
- Diploma or Associate's Degree in Chemical Engineering Technology, Process Technology, or a related field.
- Certifications in specialized plant operations or safety (e.g., HAZOP, confined space, hot work).
- Prior experience with specific DCS/SCADA systems used in modern gas plants.
- At least 5 years of direct operational experience in a gas processing or petrochemical facility.
- Fluency in English (written and spoken); Arabic language skills are a plus.
