Career.supersecrets is seeking a skilled Full-Time Gardener for estate maintenance in the picturesque Karongi, Western Province. Key Responsibilities

  • Perform comprehensive daily garden maintenance, including mowing, weeding, pruning, hedge trimming, and mulching across all garden areas and lawns.
  • Execute planting, watering, fertilizing, and soil conditioning tasks to ensure optimal health and growth of a diverse range of plants, shrubs, and trees.
  • Monitor for and manage pests, diseases, and other plant health issues, applying appropriate organic or conventional treatments as necessary.
  • Safely operate and maintain a variety of garden tools and machinery, including mowers, trimmers, blowers, and cultivators, ensuring they are in good working order.
  • Maintain and troubleshoot irrigation and watering systems, ensuring efficient water usage and proper plant hydration.
  • Carry out seasonal garden duties such as preparing beds for planting, winterizing sensitive plants, and clearing fallen leaves or debris.
  • Contribute to the general upkeep of the estate grounds, including cleaning pathways, patios, and outdoor furniture, ensuring a neat and tidy appearance.
  • Identify and report any potential issues with plants, equipment, or the estate infrastructure to management promptly.
  • Assist with landscape design projects and new plantings as directed, contributing creative ideas and horticultural knowledge.
  • Ensure all garden waste is properly managed, composted, or disposed of in an environmentally responsible manner, adhering to estate policies.

Required Skills

  • Proven experience in garden maintenance and horticultural practices (minimum 2 years).
  • Proficiency in operating and maintaining various garden tools and machinery.
  • Strong knowledge of plant care, including pruning techniques, pest control, and fertilization.
  • Excellent physical stamina and ability to perform demanding outdoor work in various weather conditions.
  • Keen attention to detail and a commitment to maintaining high aesthetic standards.
  • Ability to work independently and manage time effectively to meet maintenance schedules.
  • Basic understanding of irrigation systems.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Certification or diploma in Horticulture, Landscaping, or a related field.
  • Experience with local Karongi flora and fauna.
  • Knowledge of organic gardening practices.
  • Basic carpentry or plumbing skills for minor repairs on garden structures or irrigation.
  • Valid Rwandan driving license.
