Career.supersecrets is seeking a skilled Full-Time Estate Maintenance Gardener to join our team, responsible for the meticulous upkeep of prestigious residential and commercial estates in the picturesque Hermanus, Western Cape region. Key Responsibilities

  • Perform all aspects of garden and landscape maintenance, including planting, pruning, weeding, mulching, watering, and fertilizing.
  • Operate and maintain a variety of gardening equipment and tools, such as mowers, trimmers, blowers, and irrigation systems, ensuring their safe and efficient use.
  • Manage turf areas, including mowing, edging, aeration, and pest/disease control.
  • Monitor plant health, identify common pests and diseases, and apply appropriate treatments.
  • Implement and maintain efficient irrigation schedules and systems.
  • Assist with landscape design elements and new planting projects as required.
  • Maintain cleanliness and organization of garden tools, equipment, and work areas.
  • Report any significant issues or concerns regarding garden health or equipment to management promptly.
  • Adhere to all safety regulations and best horticultural practices.
  • Provide advice and recommendations for garden improvements and plant selection.

Required Skills

  • Minimum 2-3 years of proven experience in garden and estate maintenance.
  • Solid knowledge of local flora, soil types, and horticultural practices relevant to the Western Cape climate.
  • Proficiency in operating and maintaining a range of gardening machinery and hand tools.
  • Strong understanding of irrigation systems and water management.
  • Ability to identify and treat common plant pests and diseases.
  • Excellent physical fitness and stamina for demanding outdoor work in various weather conditions.
  • Reliable, punctual, and a strong work ethic with meticulous attention to detail.
  • Valid driver's license.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Formal qualification in Horticulture, Landscaping, or a related field.
  • Experience with indigenous plant species and water-wise gardening techniques.
  • Basic knowledge of landscape design principles.
  • First Aid certification.
