As a Freight Forwarder, you will be responsible for coordinating the entire shipping process, from initial client inquiry to final delivery. You will be adept at selecting the most efficient and cost-effective shipping routes and modes (sea, air, road), negotiating rates, and managing all necessary customs procedures and compliance. Key Responsibilities
- Manage the end-to-end freight forwarding process for sea, air, and road shipments, both import and export.
- Liaise directly with clients to understand their shipping requirements, provide quotes, and offer optimal logistics solutions.
- Negotiate freight rates with carriers, agents, and other service providers to ensure competitive pricing.
- Prepare and process all necessary documentation, including Bills of Lading, Air Waybills, customs declarations, and commercial invoices.
- Ensure strict compliance with national and international shipping regulations, customs procedures, and company policies.
- Monitor shipment progress, track and trace consignments, and provide proactive updates to clients regarding delays or changes.
- Resolve any issues or discrepancies that arise during transit, such as customs queries, damages, or missed connections.
- Maintain accurate records and update the freight management system with real-time shipment information.
- Cultivate strong relationships with clients, carriers, and overseas partners to facilitate smooth operations.
Required Skills
- Proven experience as a Freight Forwarder or in a similar logistics role.
- Solid understanding of international shipping regulations (IMDG, IATA, ADR) and Incoterms.
- Proficiency in customs clearance procedures and documentation.
- Excellent communication and negotiation skills, both written and verbal.
- Strong organizational skills and ability to manage multiple tasks and priorities effectively.
- High level of accuracy and attention to detail in a fast-paced environment.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook) and freight management software.
- Problem-solving aptitude with a proactive and customer-focused approach.
Preferred Qualifications
- Relevant professional qualification in logistics, supply chain management, or international trade.
- Experience with a specific freight management system or ERP.
- Knowledge of the local Grimsby/Immingham port operations and network.
- Ability to speak a second language (e.g., European languages) is a plus.
- Dangerous Goods (DG) certification.
