Key Responsibilities
- Translate a wide variety of documents and content from English to Kinyarwanda and Kinyarwanda to English, ensuring accuracy, linguistic quality, and cultural appropriateness.
- Conduct thorough proofreading and editing of translated materials to eliminate grammatical errors, typos, and ensure stylistic consistency.
- Maintain strict adherence to client-specific glossaries, style guides, and terminology databases.
- Utilize Computer-Assisted Translation (CAT) tools, Translation Memory (TM) software, and terminology management systems efficiently.
- Manage multiple translation projects simultaneously, prioritizing tasks to meet tight deadlines without compromising quality.
- Perform comprehensive research to ensure accurate terminology and cultural relevance, especially for specialized content.
- Collaborate with project managers and other linguists to clarify ambiguities and ensure the highest quality output.
- Provide constructive feedback and quality assurance checks on translations by other linguists when required.
- Maintain confidentiality and data security for all translated materials.
- Continuously update linguistic knowledge and stay informed about translation industry best practices and technological advancements.
Required Skills
- Native-level fluency in Kinyarwanda (written and spoken)
- Professional fluency in English (written and spoken)
- Proven experience as a professional translator, preferably in a remote or freelance capacity
- Excellent command of grammar, syntax, and stylistic nuances in both source and target languages
- Proficiency with at least one leading CAT tool (e.g., SDL Trados Studio, MemoQ, Memsource, Wordfast)
- Strong research skills for terminology and cultural context validation
- Exceptional attention to detail and commitment to delivering high-quality, error-free translations
- Ability to work independently, manage time effectively, and meet deadlines consistently
- Strong communication skills for effective interaction with project managers and clients
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Translation, Linguistics, English, Kinyarwanda, or a related field
- Professional translation certification (e.g., ATA, ITI, or local Rwandan equivalent)
- Specialization in specific subject matters such as legal, medical, technical, marketing, or IT translation
- Experience with localization projects and adapting content for specific regional audiences
- Familiarity with various content management systems (CMS) or localization platforms
- A portfolio of previous translation work demonstrating expertise and quality
