Job Description
The University of Rwanda – Huye Campus is seeking highly skilled and detail-oriented Freelance Digital Content Editors to support our various departments and research centers on a project basis. This remote role is ideal for experienced editors who can transform raw content into polished, engaging, and error-free digital materials. You will be instrumental in ensuring the quality and consistency of a wide range of digital outputs, including academic articles, research reports, website content, marketing materials, press releases, social media updates, and more. Working autonomously, you will apply your keen eye for detail to improve readability, correct grammar, enhance style, and ensure factual accuracy, all while adhering to established guidelines and tight deadlines. Key Responsibilities
- Edit and proofread various digital content types (academic papers, reports, website copy, news articles, marketing materials, etc.) for grammar, spelling, punctuation, style, and clarity.
- Ensure content aligns with established style guides (e.g., APA, Chicago, university-specific guidelines) and maintains a consistent tone of voice.
- Verify factual accuracy and coherence of information, identifying and flagging inconsistencies or areas requiring further clarification.
- Optimize content for digital platforms, including readability, flow, and basic SEO principles where applicable.
- Provide constructive feedback to content creators, fostering an environment of continuous improvement.
- Manage multiple editing projects simultaneously, prioritizing tasks to meet deadlines effectively.
- Collaborate with content creators and project managers to understand project requirements and objectives.
Required Skills
- Exceptional command of the English language, with superior grammar, spelling, and punctuation skills.
- Proven experience in digital content editing, copyediting, and proofreading, preferably with academic or research materials.
- Strong understanding of various style guides (e.g., APA, Chicago Manual of Style).
- High attention to detail and a meticulous approach to work.
- Proficiency in using digital editing tools and collaborative platforms (e.g., Google Docs, Microsoft Word Track Changes).
- Excellent time management and organizational skills, with the ability to meet strict deadlines.
- Strong communication skills to provide clear feedback and collaborate effectively.
- Ability to work independently and manage project workload efficiently in a remote setting.
Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in English, Journalism, Communications, Linguistics, or a related field.
- Professional editing certification or equivalent training.
- Familiarity with academic publishing processes and scholarly communication.
- Experience with content management systems (CMS) or basic HTML is a plus.
- Knowledge of the Rwandan context, culture, and academic landscape.
- Demonstrated portfolio of edited digital content.
