Key Responsibilities

  • Lead or support new product development projects from concept ideation through to commercialization.
  • Conduct experimental trials, analyze results, and make data-driven recommendations for product and process improvements.
  • Optimize existing product formulations to enhance quality, cost-efficiency, and nutritional profiles.
  • Perform sensory evaluations and interpret results to guide product development decisions.
  • Ensure all products comply with relevant food safety regulations (e.g., CFIA, HACCP) and quality standards.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams including Marketing, Production, Quality Assurance, and Supply Chain.
  • Research and evaluate new ingredients, processing technologies, and market trends.
  • Maintain accurate documentation of experimental procedures, formulations, and test results.
  • Troubleshoot product and process issues, implementing effective solutions.
  • Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives within the R&D department.

Required Skills

  • Bachelor’s degree in Food Science, Food Technology, or a related scientific field.
  • Minimum 3 years of experience in food product development or R&D within the food industry.
  • Strong understanding of food chemistry, microbiology, and processing principles.
  • Proficiency in laboratory techniques and experimental design.
  • Knowledge of Canadian food regulations and food safety standards (HACCP, SQF).
  • Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and critical thinking skills.
  • Strong project management and organizational abilities.
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a collaborative team.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, PowerPoint).

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master’s degree in Food Science or a related field.
  • Experience with baked goods, snacks, or confectionery categories.
  • Familiarity with clean label ingredients and natural food solutions.
  • Experience with pilot plant operations and scaling up formulations.
  • Certification in food safety or quality assurance.
  • Knowledge of sensory evaluation methodologies and statistical software.
