We are seeking a dedicated and passionate Fisheries Officer to join our team in Sapele, Delta. Key Responsibilities
- Conduct regular patrols of designated fishing grounds, rivers, and waterways to monitor fishing activities.
- Enforce national and state fisheries laws, regulations, and licensing requirements.
- Inspect fishing vessels, gear, catches, and fish processing facilities for compliance with regulations.
- Collect biological and environmental data on fish stocks, water quality, and habitat conditions.
- Engage with local fishermen, fishmongers, and community groups to educate them on sustainable fishing practices and conservation efforts.
- Investigate reports of illegal fishing activities, pollution incidents, and other violations, preparing detailed reports and evidence for prosecution where necessary.
- Assist in the development and implementation of fisheries management plans and conservation initiatives.
- Maintain accurate records of patrols, inspections, data collected, and enforcement actions.
- Collaborate with other government agencies, NGOs, and stakeholders on environmental protection projects.
- Participate in public awareness campaigns and workshops to promote responsible resource utilization.
Required Skills
- Strong understanding of fisheries management principles and aquatic ecosystems.
- Knowledge of Nigerian fisheries laws, policies, and regulations.
