Job Description

Career.supersecrets is seeking a highly skilled and dedicated Fisheries Expert to join our network of professionals. This pivotal role involves providing expert guidance and technical support for sustainable fisheries management and aquaculture development initiatives within Ogun State, with a particular focus on the Ifo region. The successful candidate will play a crucial role in assessing existing aquatic resources, designing and implementing innovative aquaculture projects, and advising local communities and stakeholders on best practices for environmental conservation and resource optimization. This position demands a comprehensive understanding of aquatic biology, fisheries science, environmental policies, and socio-economic dynamics affecting local fishing communities. You will be instrumental in conducting field surveys, data analysis, and preparing detailed reports to inform policy decisions and project evaluations. A significant part of this role will also involve capacity building, including training local fishermen and farmers on modern fishing techniques, post-harvest handling, and aquaculture technologies to enhance productivity and sustainability. Collaboration with government agencies, NGOs, and research institutions will be essential to ensure integrated approaches to resource management. Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct comprehensive assessments of local aquatic ecosystems and fisheries resources.
  • Develop and implement sustainable aquaculture and fisheries management plans tailored to local conditions.
  • Provide technical advice and support to local communities, cooperatives, and government bodies on best practices.
  • Organize and deliver training workshops for fishermen and aquaculture farmers on modern techniques, hygiene, and value addition.
  • Monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of implemented projects, ensuring adherence to environmental regulations.
  • Perform data collection, analysis, and prepare detailed scientific and technical reports.
  • Advise on policy formulation related to fisheries, aquaculture, and aquatic resource conservation.
  • Collaborate with internal teams, external partners, government agencies, and research institutions.
  • Identify funding opportunities and assist in proposal development for fisheries projects.
  • Promote sustainable fishing practices and contribute to food security initiatives in the region.

Required Skills

  • Expertise in Fisheries Science, Aquaculture, or Aquatic Biology.
  • Strong understanding of sustainable resource management principles.
  • Proficiency in data collection, statistical analysis, and report writing.
  • Demonstrated experience in project planning and implementation.
