Job Description
As a Field Engineer II – Production Automation at Schlumberger in the United Arab Emirates, you will be a critical part of our mission to optimize production and enhance operational efficiency for our clients. This is an exciting opportunity for a motivated and experienced engineer to apply advanced automation technologies in dynamic field environments. You will be responsible for the full lifecycle of automation projects, from installation and commissioning to maintenance and troubleshooting of complex production systems. Your work will directly impact our clients’ ability to maximize output, reduce operational costs, and ensure safety across their oil and gas assets. This role requires a blend of hands-on technical expertise, strong problem-solving capabilities, and excellent communication skills to collaborate effectively with clients, field crews, and engineering teams. You will be expected to interpret technical drawings, configure Programmable Logic Controllers (PLCs), Human-Machine Interfaces (HMIs), and SCADA systems, and diagnose electrical and control system issues in challenging conditions. Key Responsibilities
- Execute installation, commissioning, maintenance, and troubleshooting of production automation systems (PLCs, HMIs, SCADA, RTUs, VSDs) in field environments.
- Perform diagnostic checks, repair, and calibration of instrumentation and control equipment.
- Optimize control logic and HMI graphics to improve operational efficiency and user experience.
- Collaborate with clients to understand their operational requirements and deliver tailored automation solutions.
- Provide technical support and guidance to field operations teams and junior engineers.
- Ensure strict adherence to safety protocols, company policies, and industry regulations.
- Generate detailed service reports, maintenance logs, and project documentation.
- Participate in root cause analysis for equipment failures and implement corrective actions.
- Conduct site surveys and assist in the design and planning of new automation projects.
- Stay updated with the latest advancements in industrial automation and control technologies.
Required Skills
- Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Automation Engineering, Instrumentation & Control, or a related field.
- Minimum of 4 years of experience in industrial automation, preferably within the oil and gas or process industry.
- Proven expertise in PLC programming (e.g., Siemens, Rockwell, Schneider Electric) and SCADA/HMI configuration.
- Strong understanding of industrial communication protocols (e.g., Modbus, Profibus, Ethernet/IP).
- Ability to read and interpret P&IDs, electrical schematics, and control narratives.
- Hands-on experience with field instrumentation, control valves, and electrical systems.
- Excellent problem-solving and diagnostic skills.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills, capable of working effectively in a team and client-facing role.
- Valid UAE driving license and willingness to travel to various field sites.
Preferred Qualifications
- Master's degree in a relevant engineering discipline.
- Professional certifications in automation (e.g., ISA, Certified Automation Professional – CAP).
- Experience with distributed control systems (DCS).
- Familiarity with functional safety standards (e.g., IEC 61508, IEC 61511).
- Prior experience with Schlumberger specific automation platforms or similar industry-leading solutions.
