Job Description
We are seeking a talented and innovative Fashion Designer (Local) to join our creative team at Chigozie Fashion House in Afikpo. This is a unique opportunity for an individual with a strong understanding of both traditional Nigerian fashion, particularly as it pertains to the Igbo culture of Ebonyi, and a keen eye for contemporary global trends. The ideal candidate will be instrumental in conceptualizing, designing, and developing new collections, custom pieces, and signature styles that reflect our brand’s commitment to quality, cultural authenticity, and modern appeal. You will work closely with our tailoring team, fabric suppliers, and clients to bring designs from concept to reality, ensuring each garment meets our high standards of craftsmanship and aesthetic excellence. Key Responsibilities
- Research current fashion trends, local aesthetics, and market demands to inform design concepts.
- Develop original design concepts, sketches, and detailed technical drawings for new collections and bespoke orders.
- Select and source appropriate fabrics, embellishments, and accessories from local markets and suppliers.
- Create patterns, prototypes, and samples, collaborating closely with tailors and seamstresses.
- Oversee the fitting process, making necessary adjustments to ensure perfect fit and comfort.
- Manage the design lifecycle from initial concept to final production, ensuring quality control at every stage.
- Maintain a comprehensive understanding of garment construction techniques and textile properties.
- Collaborate with the marketing team to promote new designs and collections.
- Build and maintain a portfolio of designs and design documentation for all projects.
- Provide expert advice and creative input for client consultations and custom design requests.
Required Skills
- Proficiency in fashion illustration and sketching (manual and/or digital)
- Strong understanding of garment construction, pattern making, and draping techniques
- Extensive knowledge of local fabrics, textiles, and traditional Nigerian attire
- Excellent sense of style, color, and design aesthetics
- Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, collaborative environment
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills
- Proficiency in design software (e.g., Adobe Illustrator, Photoshop) is a plus
- Attention to detail and commitment to quality craftsmanship
Preferred Qualifications
- Diploma or Bachelor's degree in Fashion Design, Textile Design, or a related field
