Job Description
Ralph Lauren is seeking a highly creative and talented Fashion Designer to join our dynamic design team in New York City. The ideal candidate will possess a strong understanding of current fashion trends, exceptional technical skills, and a proven ability to translate design concepts into tangible garments. This role demands a collaborative spirit and a keen eye for detail, as you’ll work closely with other designers, pattern makers, and production teams to bring your vision to life. You will be involved in all stages of the design process, from initial concept sketches and mood boards to final sample approvals, ensuring the highest quality and adherence to brand standards. Key Responsibilities
- Develop original design concepts and sketches for apparel collections.
- Create technical design specifications and ensure accurate pattern making and grading.
- Collaborate with pattern makers, sample machinists, and production teams to create high-quality samples.
- Present designs to design directors and provide rationale for creative decisions.
- Maintain detailed design records and documentation.
- Stay abreast of current fashion trends and competitive landscape.
- Participate in design meetings and contribute to the overall creative direction.
- Source and select fabrics, trims, and other materials.
- Adhere to deadlines and budget constraints.
Required Skills
- Proficient in Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop, Illustrator)
- Strong technical design skills and knowledge of garment construction.
- Excellent sketching and illustration abilities.
- Experience with pattern making and grading.
- Knowledge of fabric types and textile sourcing.
- Strong communication and collaboration skills.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Problem-solving and critical thinking skills.
Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Fashion Design or a related field.
- 3-5 years of experience in the fashion industry.
