Job Description
We are seeking a highly motivated and experienced Exploration Geophysicist to join our dynamic team in Maputo, Mozambique. This is a critical role responsible for contributing to the strategic exploration and appraisal of hydrocarbon reservoirs across Mozambique’s promising offshore and onshore blocks. The successful candidate will play a key role in the interpretation of seismic data, integration of geological and geophysical information, and the identification of new exploration opportunities. You will be instrumental in mapping subsurface structures, evaluating prospectivity, and providing crucial insights that drive drilling decisions and resource estimates. This role requires a professional who is not only technically proficient but also possesses a strong analytical mind, excellent problem-solving skills, and the ability to collaborate effectively within multidisciplinary teams. You will be working with state-of-the-art geophysical software and techniques to interpret complex datasets, contributing directly to ENH’s strategic objectives of expanding our hydrocarbon reserves and ensuring long-term energy security for Mozambique. Key Responsibilities
- Interpret 2D and 3D seismic data to identify and evaluate potential hydrocarbon traps and plays.
- Integrate geophysical interpretations with geological, petrophysical, and drilling data to build comprehensive subsurface models.
- Perform quantitative interpretation (QI) techniques, including AVO/LMR analysis, seismic inversion, and rock physics modeling.
- Conduct prospect generation and evaluation, including risked volumetric assessment and economic screening.
- Support well planning and drilling operations by providing geophysical input and real-time monitoring.
- Prepare and present technical reports, maps, and presentations to internal teams and partners.
- Participate in regional basin analysis and play fairway mapping.
- Mentor junior geophysicists and contribute to knowledge sharing within the department.
- Ensure compliance with all safety, environmental, and regulatory standards.
- Stay abreast of new geophysical technologies and methodologies and recommend their application.
Required Skills
- Master's degree in Geophysics, Geology, or a related field.
- Minimum of 4 years of experience in hydrocarbon exploration geophysics, preferably within an oil & gas operator.
- Proficiency in industry-standard geophysical software (e.g., Petrel, Kingdom, Geoprobe).
- Strong understanding of seismic acquisition, processing, and interpretation principles.
- Demonstrated experience in prospect generation, risking, and volumetric assessment.
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Fluency in English (written and spoken).
Preferred Qualifications
- PhD in Geophysics or a related field.
- Experience working with deepwater and/or frontier exploration datasets.
- Knowledge of Portuguese is a significant advantage.
- Familiarity with Mozambique's geological setting and hydrocarbon systems.
- Experience with seismic attributes analysis and machine learning applications in geophysics.
- Project management experience within a technical exploration team.
