Job Description

GIG Logistics is seeking highly motivated and experienced Truck Drivers to join our growing haulage team in Asaba, Delta. As a Truck Driver, you will be the backbone of our logistics operations, responsible for the safe, timely, and efficient transportation of goods and cargo across various routes within Asaba, Delta State, and potentially to other states in Nigeria. This role is crucial to maintaining our promise of reliable delivery and exceptional customer service. You will operate a range of heavy-duty vehicles, adhering strictly to traffic laws, company policies, and safety regulations. We are looking for individuals with a strong sense of responsibility, excellent driving skills, and a commitment to maintaining the integrity of transported goods. Your day-to-day will involve pre-trip and post-trip inspections, securing loads, navigating diverse road conditions, and effectively communicating with dispatch and logistics coordinators. This is more than just driving; it’s about being a critical link in the supply chain, ensuring that businesses can operate smoothly and customers receive their packages without delay. Key Responsibilities

  • Safely and efficiently operate heavy-duty trucks to transport goods and cargo to designated locations.
  • Perform thorough pre-trip and post-trip inspections of vehicles, ensuring all mechanical and safety components are in excellent working condition.
  • Secure cargo properly to prevent damage or shifting during transit, adhering to load distribution guidelines.
  • Adhere strictly to all federal, state, and local traffic laws and transportation regulations.
  • Maintain accurate logbooks, delivery manifests, and other required documentation.
  • Communicate effectively with dispatchers, logistics coordinators, and clients regarding delivery schedules, delays, and any issues encountered on the road.
  • Handle and transport goods with care, minimizing the risk of damage or loss.
  • Report any vehicle malfunctions, accidents, or incidents promptly to management.
  • Ensure timely delivery of goods while optimizing routes for fuel efficiency and time management.
  • Represent GIG Logistics professionally at all times, interacting courteously with customers and colleagues.

Required Skills

  • Valid Class G or equivalent heavy-duty driver's license (e.g., Nigerian Type E/F/G driver's license)
  • Minimum of 3 years of verifiable commercial truck driving experience.
  • Clean driving record with no major violations or accidents.
  • Thorough knowledge of Nigerian traffic laws and road safety regulations.
  • Ability to perform basic vehicle maintenance checks and troubleshooting.
  • Strong physical stamina and ability to handle long hours of driving and occasional lifting.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to read and interpret maps, GPS, and route instructions.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Secondary School Certificate (SSCE) or equivalent.
  • Certificate in Defensive Driving or professional driving course.
  • Experience with specialized cargo handling (e.g., fragile, temperature-sensitive goods).
  • Familiarity with major routes and road networks within Delta State and surrounding regions.
  • Basic mechanical aptitude for minor on-road repairs.
