Join Kaap Agri, a leading agricultural services group, in a crucial role as an Experienced Tractor Driver based in the vibrant farming community of Zoar, Western Cape. We are seeking a dedicated and skilled individual to operate and maintain various types of tractors and farm machinery, playing a pivotal role in our agricultural operations. This position requires a strong understanding of modern farming practices, a commitment to safety, and a meticulous approach to equipment care. As a Tractor Driver, you will be integral to the success of our cultivation, planting, harvesting, and general farm maintenance activities, contributing directly to the efficient functioning of our farming processes. You will be responsible for operating heavy machinery with precision, ensuring optimal performance for tasks such as ploughing, harrowing, planting, spraying, fertilising, and transporting crops or materials. Key Responsibilities
- Operate tractors and various farm implements (ploughs, planters, sprayers, harvesters, etc.) safely and efficiently.
- Perform daily pre-operation checks and routine maintenance on tractors and equipment, including fluid levels, tyre pressure, and lubrication.
- Monitor equipment performance and report any mechanical issues or malfunctions to the relevant supervisor promptly.
- Adhere to planting, spraying, and harvesting schedules, ensuring precise application and optimal timing.
- Transport crops, fertilisers, feed, and other materials across the farm and to designated storage or delivery points.
- Assist with the loading and unloading of agricultural products and supplies.
- Maintain accurate records of work performed, fuel consumption, and equipment maintenance.
- Follow all safety protocols, environmental regulations, and company policies.
- Participate in team meetings and contribute to operational planning at the local depot.
- Clean and store equipment properly after use.
Required Skills
- Valid Code 10/14 (EC1/EC) driver's license with PDP (Professional Driving Permit)
- Minimum 3 years of proven experience operating various types of agricultural tractors and machinery
- Strong understanding of modern farming practices and crop cycles
- Excellent knowledge of tractor mechanics and routine maintenance procedures
- Ability to operate GPS-guided equipment (advantageous but not strictly required)
- Strong attention to detail and precision in operation
- Commitment to safety and adherence to all operational guidelines
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team
- Good communication skills (verbal and written)
Preferred Qualifications
- High School Diploma or equivalent (Grade 10/Matric)
- Formal training or certification in agricultural machinery operation and maintenance
- Experience with advanced precision agriculture technologies
- Familiarity with the Western Cape agricultural landscape and specific crop types grown in the region
