Job Description
We are seeking a highly motivated and experienced Research Scientist to join our dynamic Clinical Diagnostics Lab team in Abuja. This pivotal role involves leading and contributing to innovative research projects aimed at developing, validating, and implementing new diagnostic methodologies and improving existing assays. The successful candidate will be instrumental in driving scientific excellence, ensuring the highest standards of quality control, and translating cutting-edge research into practical clinical applications. Key Responsibilities
- Design, execute, and interpret complex experiments for the development and validation of new diagnostic assays and technologies.
- Lead and manage research projects from conceptualization through to implementation, ensuring adherence to project timelines and budget.
- Analyze and present experimental data using appropriate statistical methods and data visualization tools.
- Prepare comprehensive technical reports, research summaries, and scientific publications for internal and external dissemination.
- Ensure strict adherence to quality assurance (QA) and quality control (QC) procedures, regulatory guidelines (e.g., ISO 15189), and best laboratory practices.
- Evaluate new laboratory equipment, reagents, and methodologies to optimize performance and efficiency.
- Collaborate effectively with interdisciplinary teams including pathologists, clinicians, and other scientists.
- Mentor and train junior laboratory personnel in experimental design, execution, and data analysis.
- Contribute to grant proposals and secure funding for future research initiatives.
- Stay abreast of the latest scientific literature, technological advancements, and regulatory requirements in clinical diagnostics.
Required Skills
- Expertise in molecular biology techniques (e.g., PCR, qPCR, sequencing, electrophoresis).
- Proficiency in immunoassay development and validation.
- Strong understanding of statistical analysis for research data and experimental design.
- Experience with laboratory information management systems (LIMS).
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills for scientific reporting and presentations.
- Proven problem-solving abilities and critical thinking.
- Demonstrated ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced research environment.
- Familiarity with regulatory standards (e.g., ISO 15189, CLIA, CAP) in a clinical laboratory setting.
Preferred Qualifications
- PhD in Molecular Biology, Biochemistry, Medical Laboratory Science, or a related scientific field.
- Post-doctoral research experience in clinical diagnostics or a related industry.
- Track record of scientific publications in peer-reviewed journals.
