Key Responsibilities
- Perform venipuncture and capillary punctures on patients of all ages with skill, precision, and a gentle approach, adhering strictly to established safety protocols and company procedures.
- Accurately identify patients, label specimens, and complete all necessary documentation and requisitions according to Quest Diagnostics' policies and regulatory requirements.
- Maintain patient comfort, confidence, and privacy throughout the collection process, demonstrating empathy, professionalism, and excellent communication skills.
- Process and prepare collected specimens for laboratory testing and transport, ensuring proper handling, temperature control, and integrity of samples.
- Maintain a clean, organized, and sterile phlebotomy area, including stocking supplies, managing inventory, and correctly disposing of biohazardous waste.
- Adhere to all HIPAA guidelines and other regulatory standards, ensuring patient confidentiality and data security at all times.
- Troubleshoot issues related to specimen collection, equipment, and patient interactions, seeking assistance from supervisors or appropriate personnel when necessary.
- Participate actively in ongoing training, competency assessments, and quality assurance programs to enhance skills and ensure continuous compliance.
- Provide exceptional customer service to all patients, answering questions, providing clear instructions, and addressing concerns professionally and efficiently.
- Accurately enter patient information, test orders, and collection data into the laboratory information system.
- Adhere to all corporate compliance programs and policies, including those related to ethics and code of conduct.
Required Skills
- High School Diploma or equivalent.
- Completion of an accredited Phlebotomy program or equivalent training.
- Minimum 6 months of recent, supervised phlebotomy experience (e.g., in a patient service center, hospital, or physician's office).
- Proficiency in venipuncture and capillary collection techniques for all age groups.
- Strong understanding of specimen collection, handling, and processing procedures.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Exceptional attention to detail and organizational skills.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced environment.
- Basic computer proficiency for data entry and system navigation.
- Valid driver's license and reliable transportation (if required for mobile collections, though this role is primarily PSC based).
Preferred Qualifications
- Certified Phlebotomy Technician (PBT) certification from ASCP or equivalent national certification.
- Previous experience with laboratory information systems (LIS).
- Experience in a high-volume patient service center setting.
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
