Job Description
Zimplats Holdings Limited is seeking a highly motivated and experienced Mining Engineer to join our dynamic team at our Ngezi underground operations. This is a pivotal role for a professional who is passionate about optimizing mining processes, ensuring safety, and driving productivity in a challenging yet rewarding environment. The successful candidate will be instrumental in the planning, design, and supervision of various mining activities, contributing directly to our strategic objectives and operational efficiency. This role requires a robust understanding of underground hard rock mining methods, geotechnical principles, and ventilation systems.

Key Responsibilities
- Develop and implement detailed short-term and long-term mine plans for underground operations, ensuring optimal extraction and resource utilization.
- Conduct comprehensive geotechnical analyses and design support systems to ensure stability of underground excavations.
- Optimize drill and blast designs, leading to efficient rock fragmentation and minimal dilution.
- Monitor and evaluate mining operations against plans, identifying deviations and implementing corrective actions.
- Manage and improve ventilation systems to ensure safe working conditions and regulatory compliance.
- Prepare technical reports, presentations, and economic evaluations to support strategic decision-making.
- Collaborate with geology, survey, maintenance, and safety teams to ensure integrated operational success.
- Lead and participate in continuous improvement initiatives, applying engineering principles to enhance productivity, cost efficiency, and safety.
- Ensure strict adherence to all company safety policies, environmental regulations, and national mining legislation.
- Mentor junior engineers and technical staff, fostering a culture of learning and development.
Required Skills
- Bachelor's Degree in Mining Engineering or equivalent.
- Minimum of 3 years of post-qualification experience in underground hard rock mining operations.
- Proficiency in mine planning software (e.g., Surpac, Vulcan, Deswik).
- Strong understanding of rock mechanics, ventilation systems, and mine services.
- Demonstrated experience in drill and blast design and optimization.
- Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.
- Proven ability to work effectively in a team-oriented environment and lead projects.
- Valid Zimbabwean Class 4 Driver's License.
Preferred Qualifications
- Master's Degree in Mining Engineering or a related field.
- Professional registration with the Engineering Council of Zimbabwe (ECZ) or equivalent.
- Experience with mechanized mining methods and automation technologies.
- Certifications in project management or advanced safety practices.
- Prior experience working with Platinum Group Metals (PGMs).
