Job Description
We are seeking a highly motivated and experienced Mining Engineer to join our operations team in Ewarton, St. Catherine. The successful candidate will be instrumental in optimizing our bauxite mining operations, ensuring efficiency, safety, and compliance with all relevant regulations. This role requires a blend of technical expertise, practical field experience, and strong leadership capabilities. You will be responsible for developing and implementing mine plans, managing operational aspects, overseeing blasting programs, and contributing to strategic initiatives aimed at maximizing resource recovery while minimizing environmental impact. The Mining Engineer will work closely with geological, processing, and environmental teams to ensure seamless integration of mining activities with overall company objectives. Key Responsibilities
- Develop and implement short-term and long-term mine plans, including excavation sequences, haul road designs, and waste disposal strategies.
- Oversee daily mining operations, ensuring adherence to production targets, safety protocols, and environmental standards.
- Design and manage blasting programs, including charge calculations, blast patterns, and monitoring, in compliance with safety regulations.
- Monitor and analyze mining performance data, identifying areas for improvement in efficiency, cost, and safety.
- Conduct geological and geotechnical analysis to optimize mine design and stability.
- Manage and optimize mining equipment utilization and maintenance schedules.
- Prepare detailed reports on mining activities, production metrics, and project progress.
- Ensure strict compliance with all local and international mining regulations, environmental laws, and company policies.
- Provide technical guidance and mentorship to junior engineering staff and operational teams.
- Collaborate with other departments (e.g., geology, processing, environmental, community relations) to achieve integrated operational goals.
- Participate in risk assessments and implement control measures to mitigate operational hazards.
Required Skills
- Bachelor's degree in Mining Engineering or a related field.
- Minimum of 5 years of progressive experience in open-pit mining operations, preferably in bauxite or similar minerals.
- Proficiency in mining software (e.g., Surpac, Vulcan, AutoCAD Civil 3D).
- Strong understanding of mine planning, design, and scheduling principles.
- Knowledge of blasting design, techniques, and safety procedures.
- Familiarity with Jamaican mining regulations and environmental standards.
- Excellent problem-solving, analytical, and decision-making skills.
- Proven leadership and team management abilities.
- Effective written and verbal communication skills.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, PowerPoint).
Preferred Qualifications
- Master's degree in Mining Engineering or a related discipline.
- Professional Engineer (PE) registration or equivalent certification.
- Project Management Professional (PMP) certification.
- Experience with continuous improvement methodologies (e.g., Lean, Six Sigma).
- Knowledge of geotechnical engineering principles as applied to mine stability.
