Key Responsibilities
- Operate heavy-duty trucks for long-distance transportation of goods across designated routes.
- Conduct thorough pre-trip and post-trip inspections of vehicles and trailers, ensuring all mechanical, safety, and emergency equipment is in good working order.
- Adhere strictly to all national and regional traffic laws, transportation regulations, and company safety policies.
- Safely load and unload cargo, or oversee the loading/unloading process, ensuring proper weight distribution and securement.
- Maintain accurate driving logs, vehicle inspection reports, and other necessary paperwork.
- Communicate effectively with dispatch, logistics coordinators, and clients regarding delivery schedules, delays, and any issues encountered on the road.
- Perform minor roadside repairs and routine maintenance tasks as needed.
- Plan routes and meet delivery deadlines efficiently, adapting to unforeseen circumstances such as weather or road closures.
- Maintain cleanliness and good operating condition of the vehicle.
Required Skills
- Valid Class C (or equivalent heavy vehicle) driver's license for Rwanda.
- Minimum of 2 years of verifiable long-haul truck driving experience.
- Clean driving record with no major violations.
- Proven knowledge of truck maintenance and basic repair.
- Ability to operate vehicles safely in various weather and road conditions.
- Strong understanding of national transportation regulations.
- Excellent time management and organizational skills.
- Physical fitness to handle long hours of driving and occasional manual labor.
Preferred Qualifications
- High School Diploma or equivalent.
- Additional certifications in defensive driving or hazardous materials transport.
- Experience with GPS navigation systems and electronic logging devices (ELDs).
- Familiarity with routes across East African countries.
- Strong communication skills in Kinyarwanda and English.
