Job Description
Singita invites passionate and highly skilled individuals to apply for the position of Game Ranger within our prestigious Sabi Sand Game Reserve properties. As a Game Ranger, you will be the heart of the guest experience, responsible for leading engaging and educational game drives, bush walks, and other wilderness activities. Your primary goal will be to provide an unparalleled safari adventure while upholding the highest standards of safety, conservation, and guest satisfaction. This role requires an in-depth knowledge of the African bushveld, its flora and fauna, and a profound understanding of ecological principles. You will be a storyteller, an educator, and a guardian of the wilderness, interpreting the natural world for guests from across the globe. Beyond guiding, you will play a crucial role in daily lodge operations, contributing to the overall guest journey from arrival to departure, and ensuring all experiences are seamlessly integrated with Singita’s luxury standards. Key Responsibilities
- Conduct daily guided game drives and bush walks, interpreting wildlife, flora, and natural phenomena for guests.
- Ensure the safety and well-being of all guests during wilderness activities, adhering strictly to safety protocols.
- Maintain a deep and current knowledge of the reserve's ecology, wildlife movements, and conservation efforts.
- Uphold Singita's high standards of guest service, anticipating needs and creating memorable, personalized experiences.
- Maintain game drive vehicles and equipment in excellent working order, conducting daily checks and minor maintenance.
- Actively participate in conservation monitoring and data collection as required by the reserve management.
- Collaborate effectively with the lodge management team, fellow rangers, and other departments to ensure seamless operations.
- Contribute to the positive atmosphere and team spirit within the lodge environment.
- Assist with guest transfers, luggage handling, and other guest service duties as needed.
- Represent Singita professionally and embody its core values at all times.
Required Skills
- FGASA Level 1 or higher qualification (with Lead Trails Guide a significant advantage)
- Valid SASSETA Rifle Proficiency certificate and experience in handling a rifle
- Valid South African Code 08 (B) Driver's License with PDP (Professional Driving Permit)
- Minimum of 2 years' proven experience as a qualified Game Ranger in a big five area
- Exceptional knowledge of Southern African flora, fauna, and ecology
- Strong communication, interpersonal, and storytelling skills
- Ability to work independently and as part of a diverse team in a remote lodge environment
- First Aid Level 3 qualification
- Proficiency in English (written and spoken)
Preferred Qualifications
- FGASA Level 2 or higher qualification
- Lead Trails Guide qualification
- Specialized guiding certifications (e.g., Birding, Photography)
- Proficiency in an additional language (e.g., German, French, isiZulu, Xitsonga)
- Marine Guide or Cultural Guide qualifications (for potential broader opportunities within Singita)
- Strong mechanical aptitude for vehicle maintenance
