Astral Foods is seeking a highly skilled and safety-conscious Forklift Operator to join our dedicated team in Springs, Gauteng. This vital role is central to our warehousing and logistics operations, ensuring the efficient and safe movement of goods within our facilities. As a Forklift Operator, you will be responsible for loading, unloading, stacking, and organizing materials, maintaining meticulous inventory control, and adhering strictly to all safety protocols. You will operate various types of forklifts, including counterbalance and reach trucks, within a fast-paced environment, contributing significantly to our supply chain efficiency and product quality. Key Responsibilities
- Operate forklifts (e.g., counterbalance, reach trucks) safely and efficiently to load, unload, stack, and move products and materials.
- Perform daily pre-shift inspections of forklifts and other equipment, reporting any defects or malfunctions immediately.
- Ensure accurate handling and placement of goods, minimizing damage and maintaining optimal storage configurations.
- Assist with inventory management, including receiving, storing, picking, and dispatching products, using scanning systems where applicable.
- Adhere strictly to all company safety policies, procedures, and health and safety regulations.
- Collaborate with warehouse staff, production teams, and supervisors to facilitate smooth operational flow.
- Maintain a clean and organized work area, contributing to overall warehouse safety and efficiency.
- Assist with general warehouse duties as required, including manual handling of goods.
- Participate in ongoing training and development programs to enhance skills and knowledge.
Required Skills
- Valid Forklift Operator license/certification (counterbalance and/or reach truck).
- Minimum of 18 months of proven experience as a Forklift Operator in a warehouse, manufacturing, or logistics environment.
- Demonstrated knowledge of warehouse safety procedures and practices.
- Ability to operate forklifts safely and efficiently in a fast-paced environment.
- Strong attention to detail and accuracy in handling goods and inventory.
- Good physical condition, capable of lifting and moving heavy objects as required.
- Effective communication skills and ability to work well within a team.
- Reliable and punctual with a strong work ethic.
Preferred Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Experience with inventory management systems (e.g., WMS).
- Familiarity with the food production or perishable goods industry.
