Key Responsibilities
- Operate and maintain a variety of fishing equipment, including nets, lines, and traps.
- Assist in navigating fishing vessels to designated fishing grounds under the captain's direction.
- Adhere strictly to all maritime safety regulations and environmental protection protocols.
- Efficiently handle, sort, clean, and store catch according to quality standards and regulations.
- Perform routine maintenance and minor repairs on fishing gear and vessel components.
- Monitor weather and sea conditions, reporting any changes or concerns to the captain.
- Work collaboratively with the crew to ensure efficient and safe fishing operations.
- Conduct pre-voyage checks and post-voyage clean-up of the vessel and equipment.
Required Skills
- Proven proficiency in various commercial fishing techniques (e.g., netting, longlining, trapping).
- Exceptional physical stamina, strength, and endurance to handle demanding tasks in challenging conditions.
- Comprehensive knowledge of maritime safety procedures, including first aid, fire safety, and emergency response.
- Ability to work effectively for extended periods in varying weather conditions, including heat, humidity, and choppy seas.
- Strong teamwork, communication, and problem-solving skills.
- Basic understanding of marine vessel operation and maintenance.
- Valid marine medical fitness certificate.
- Ability to accurately identify common fish species found in local waters.
