Key Responsibilities
- Accurately lay bricks, blocks, and other building materials in accordance with architectural plans and specifications.
- Prepare and mix mortar, cement, and other binding agents to the correct consistency.
- Measure and cut bricks/blocks as required, ensuring precise alignment and finish.
- Construct and repair walls, foundations, partitions, arches, and other structures.
- Read and interpret blueprints, drawings, and site plans.
- Ensure all work adheres strictly to health and safety regulations and quality standards on site.
- Collaborate effectively with other construction professionals, including carpenters, plumbers, and electricians.
- Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area.
- Identify and report any potential hazards or issues on the construction site.
- Perform minor repair work and touch-ups as needed.
Required Skills
- Proven experience as a Bricklayer in residential, commercial, or heritage projects.
- Demonstrable proficiency in various bricklaying techniques (e.g., English bond, Flemish bond).
- Strong understanding of building codes, safety regulations, and construction best practices.
- Ability to accurately interpret technical drawings and specifications.
- Excellent hand-eye coordination, precision, and attention to detail.
- Physical fitness and stamina to perform demanding tasks, often outdoors and in varying weather conditions.
- Strong communication and teamwork skills.
- Reliability and a strong work ethic.
Preferred Qualifications
- NVQ Level 2 or 3 in Trowel Occupations (Bricklaying) or equivalent.
- Valid CSCS (Construction Skills Certification Scheme) card.
- Full UK driving license and own transport.
- Experience with specialist bricklaying tools and machinery.
- Knowledge of traditional building materials and techniques relevant to Harrogate's architecture.
- First Aid certification.
