Job Description

G. U. Odimayo & Co. (Law Firm) is actively seeking a passionate, dedicated, and highly skilled Barrister/Lawyer to join our esteemed legal team in Enugu. This is an exceptional opportunity for a legal professional eager to advance their career within a dynamic and supportive environment. As a Barrister/Lawyer with our firm, you will play a pivotal role in advising clients, conducting rigorous legal research, drafting various legal documents, and representing clients in court and before tribunals. You will manage a diverse caseload, ranging from complex commercial disputes and land matters to criminal proceedings and family law cases. The ideal candidate will possess a comprehensive understanding of Nigerian jurisprudence, exceptional advocacy skills, and a proven track record of delivering favorable outcomes for clients. We are looking for someone who can independently manage cases while also collaborating effectively with senior partners and other legal associates. This role demands meticulous attention to detail, strong analytical capabilities, and the ability to communicate complex legal concepts clearly and persuasively. You will be expected to uphold the highest standards of professional ethics and client confidentiality. Key Responsibilities

  • Provide legal advice and counsel to clients on a broad range of legal issues.
  • Conduct thorough legal research and analysis to support case strategies.
  • Draft, review, and negotiate various legal documents, including pleadings, contracts, and legal opinions.
  • Represent clients effectively in court, tribunals, and alternative dispute resolution forums.
  • Prepare and present compelling arguments, examine witnesses, and handle cross-examinations.
  • Manage a diverse caseload, ensuring timely progress and adherence to deadlines.
  • Maintain strict confidentiality and uphold the highest ethical standards of the legal profession.
  • Collaborate with senior lawyers and other legal professionals within the firm.
  • Stay updated on developments in Nigerian law and relevant legal precedents.
  • Develop and maintain strong client relationships, fostering trust and long-term engagement.

Required Skills

  • Called to the Nigerian Bar with a valid practicing license.
  • Minimum of 3 years post-call experience as a Barrister/Lawyer.
  • Proven experience in litigation and court advocacy.
  • Strong understanding of Nigerian corporate, property, and criminal law.
  • Excellent legal research and analytical skills.
  • Superior written and verbal communication abilities.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • High level of professional ethics and integrity.
  • Proficiency in legal software and Microsoft Office Suite.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master's degree (LL.M) in a specialized area of law.
  • Experience in specific niche areas such as environmental law, intellectual property, or international law.
  • Membership in relevant professional legal associations.
  • Demonstrated ability to attract and retain clients.
