Key Responsibilities
- Prepare and serve a wide variety of coffee beverages, including espresso-based drinks, pour-overs, and cold brews, adhering to established recipes and quality standards.
- Operate and maintain espresso machines, grinders, and other coffee equipment, ensuring cleanliness and proper functioning.
- Engage with customers in a friendly, professional, and efficient manner, taking orders accurately and providing personalized recommendations.
- Handle cash and card transactions using a POS system, maintaining accurate till reconciliation.
- Maintain a clean and organized work environment, including coffee bar, seating areas, and restrooms, following health and safety guidelines.
- Monitor inventory levels of coffee beans, milk, syrups, and other supplies, reporting needs to management.
- Assist with opening and closing procedures, including setting up and breaking down the coffee bar.
- Educate customers on coffee bean origins, brewing methods, and flavor profiles.
- Resolve customer complaints or concerns with professionalism and efficiency.
- Collaborate with team members to ensure smooth operations and exceptional service during peak hours.
Required Skills
- Minimum 6 months of proven experience as a Barista in a reputable coffee shop or café.
- Demonstrable knowledge of coffee preparation techniques, espresso machine operation, and latte art.
- Excellent customer service skills with a friendly and approachable demeanor.
- Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment while maintaining high standards of quality.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Basic math skills and experience with point-of-sale (POS) systems.
- Ability to stand for extended periods and lift up to 12 kg (25 lbs).
- Flexibility to work various shifts, including weekends and public holidays.
Preferred Qualifications
- Certification from a recognized barista training program.
- Experience with specialty coffee roasting and sourcing.
- Fluency in Kinyarwanda and English is highly advantageous.
- Knowledge of food safety regulations and practices.
