Job Description

We are seeking a highly motivated and experienced Auditor to join our dynamic Audit practice in Tokyo, with a specialized focus on the Financial Services sector. In this pivotal role, you will be instrumental in leading complex audit engagements for a diverse portfolio of financial services clients, including banks, insurance companies, and asset management firms. You will apply your deep technical expertise, critical thinking, and advanced analytical skills to ensure the accuracy and integrity of financial statements, identify potential risks, and provide insightful recommendations that contribute to our clients’ strategic goals. This position offers a unique opportunity to enhance your leadership capabilities, mentor junior team members, and significantly contribute to our clients’ success and KPMG’s reputation for excellence. You will navigate intricate regulatory environments, collaborate closely with clients’ senior management, and play a key role in maintaining our unwavering commitment to quality and professional standards. Ideal candidates will possess a strong command of International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS) and/or US Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (US GAAP), a meticulous approach to detail, and exceptional communication skills to articulate complex findings clearly and concisely to diverse stakeholders. Your contributions will directly impact the trust and transparency essential for the global financial markets.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead and manage audit engagements from planning through to completion, ensuring adherence to audit methodologies, professional standards, and regulatory requirements.
  • Perform in-depth reviews of financial statements, internal controls, and accounting systems, identifying critical audit areas and assessing complex accounting issues.
  • Supervise, coach, and develop junior audit staff, providing constructive feedback and fostering a high-performance team environment.
  • Act as a primary point of contact for clients, building strong relationships and effectively communicating audit findings, recommendations, and project progress.
  • Conduct risk assessments and develop appropriate audit strategies to address identified risks and ensure audit efficiency and effectiveness.
  • Stay abreast of changes in accounting standards (IFRS, US GAAP) and regulatory requirements relevant to the financial services industry.
  • Prepare comprehensive audit reports and presentations for audit committees and senior management, providing clear and concise insights.

Required Skills

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
  • 3-5+ years of progressive audit experience, preferably within a public accounting firm.
  • Professional certification (CPA, ACA, ACCA, or equivalent) is highly preferred.
  • Strong technical knowledge of IFRS and/or US GAAP.
  • Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and critical thinking skills.
  • Proven ability to lead teams, manage multiple projects, and meet deadlines.
  • Exceptional verbal and written communication skills in both English and Japanese (JLPT N2 or higher).
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, PowerPoint).

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience auditing financial services clients (banking, insurance, asset management).
  • Big Four audit firm experience.
  • Master's degree in Accounting or Finance.
  • Experience with data analytics tools in an audit context.
