Job Description
We are seeking a highly motivated and experienced Accountant to join our dynamic team in Wierdapark. This pivotal role involves managing the full accounting function for a portfolio of clients, ensuring accuracy, compliance, and timely reporting. The ideal candidate will possess a strong understanding of South African accounting standards (IFRS for SMEs), tax legislation, and best practices. You will be responsible for preparing financial statements, managing general ledgers, processing payroll, and assisting clients with their tax obligations. Key Responsibilities
- Manage the full accounting function for assigned clients, including general ledger, journals, and reconciliations.
- Prepare accurate monthly management accounts and annual financial statements in accordance with relevant accounting standards.
- Oversee payroll processing, SARS submissions (EMP201, EMP501), and related statutory requirements.
- Calculate and submit VAT (VAT201), PAYE, and income tax returns for individuals and companies.
- Conduct bank reconciliations and ensure all financial transactions are correctly recorded.
- Assist clients with budgeting, forecasting, and financial analysis.
- Liaise directly with clients to resolve queries and provide expert financial advice.
- Ensure compliance with all relevant financial regulations and reporting standards.
- Utilize accounting software effectively for data input, processing, and report generation.
Required Skills
- Minimum of 2 years' proven experience as an Accountant or similar role.
- Proficiency in accounting software such as Sage Pastel Partner/Evolution, Xero, or QuickBooks.
- Advanced Microsoft Excel skills (pivot tables, VLOOKUPs, data analysis).
- Solid understanding of IFRS for SMEs and South African tax legislation.
- Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making abilities.
- Strong attention to detail and accuracy.
- Exceptional written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to manage multiple clients and deadlines effectively.
Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Financial Management, or a related field.
- Membership with a professional body such as SAIPA, SAICA, or CIMA (or working towards).
- Experience working in an accounting practice or firm.
- Knowledge of payroll systems like Sage Payroll or VIP Payroll.
