Job Description

The Broad is seeking a highly engaging and enthusiastic Exhibit Attendant to join our dedicated team. This critical front-line role is instrumental in ensuring a safe, enjoyable, and educational experience for all visitors exploring our world-class collection of contemporary art. As an Exhibit Attendant, you will be the face of the museum, interacting directly with guests, offering guidance, answering questions, and providing insightful information about the artworks and exhibitions. Your primary responsibility will be to monitor the galleries, ensuring the safety of both visitors and the valuable art installations. This involves maintaining appropriate distances between visitors and exhibits, enforcing museum policies with tact and professionalism, and proactively addressing any potential concerns. You will play a key role in crowd management, guiding visitor flow, and assisting with emergency procedures when necessary. Beyond supervision, you will embody the museum’s commitment to accessibility and engagement, fostering a welcoming atmosphere and encouraging meaningful interaction with art. This position requires exceptional interpersonal skills, a keen eye for detail, and a genuine passion for contemporary art and public service. You will become an integral part of a vibrant cultural institution, contributing directly to the mission of making art accessible and inspiring for thousands of daily visitors. Key Responsibilities

  • Engage actively with museum visitors, providing information about artworks, exhibitions, and museum facilities.
  • Monitor galleries and exhibits continuously to ensure the safety and security of artwork and visitors.
  • Enforce museum rules and regulations courteously and effectively.
  • Assist with visitor flow and crowd management, particularly during peak hours or special events.
  • Respond to visitor inquiries, offer directions, and provide general assistance to enhance the visitor experience.
  • Report any security concerns, maintenance issues, or damaged artworks to the appropriate personnel immediately.
  • Participate in emergency response procedures, including evacuations, as trained.
  • Maintain a professional appearance and demeanor, representing The Broad with excellence.
  • Collaborate with other museum staff to ensure a seamless and positive visitor journey.

Required Skills

  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Strong customer service orientation with a friendly and approachable attitude.
  • Exceptional observational skills and attention to detail.
  • Ability to remain alert and focused for extended periods.
  • Capacity to stand and walk for the majority of a shift.

  • Flexibility to work weekends, evenings, and holidays as required.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Previous experience in a museum, gallery, or customer service environment.
  • Basic knowledge of contemporary art and artists.
  • Fluency in multiple languages (especially Spanish or Mandarin) is a plus.
  • Experience with crowd control or public safety.
