Job Description
As an Environmental Health & Safety (EHS) Officer at Sasol Mozambique, you will be instrumental in upholding our unwavering commitment to EHS excellence. This pivotal role involves supporting the implementation, monitoring, and continuous improvement of our EHS management systems across our operational sites in Mozambique. You will work closely with various departments to ensure full compliance with all local Mozambican EHS regulations, Sasol’s global standards, and international best practices. Your expertise will be crucial in identifying potential hazards, assessing risks, and developing effective mitigation strategies to prevent incidents, injuries, and environmental harm. This is a hands-on position requiring a proactive approach to EHS management, including regular site inspections, incident investigation, EHS training delivery, and fostering a strong safety culture among all personnel. The ideal candidate will be passionate about EHS, possess strong analytical skills, and be able to communicate effectively with diverse stakeholders. Key Responsibilities
- Conduct regular EHS inspections and audits across Sasol's operational sites in Mozambique, identifying non-compliance and potential hazards.
- Assist in the development, implementation, and maintenance of EHS policies, procedures, and management systems aligned with Sasol standards and Mozambican legislation.
- Investigate all EHS incidents, near misses, and occupational diseases, determining root causes and recommending corrective and preventive actions.
- Deliver EHS training programs to employees and contractors, promoting a strong safety culture and ensuring awareness of EHS responsibilities.
- Monitor and report on EHS performance metrics, identifying trends and areas for improvement.
- Ensure compliance with all relevant environmental permits, licenses, and reporting requirements.
- Facilitate risk assessments (e.g., HAZOP, JSA) and assist in the development of emergency response plans.
- Collaborate with operational teams to integrate EHS considerations into daily activities and project planning.
- Maintain accurate EHS records and documentation.
- Act as a point of contact for EHS-related queries and provide expert advice to management and staff.
Required Skills
- Bachelor's degree in Environmental Science, Occupational Health & Safety, Engineering, or a related technical field.
- Minimum of 3 years of progressive experience in an EHS role within industrial, energy, or mining sectors.
- In-depth knowledge of Mozambican EHS legislation and international EHS standards (e.g., ISO 14001, OHSAS 18001/ISO 45001).
- Proven experience in EHS incident investigation and root cause analysis.
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.
- Excellent communication, interpersonal, and presentation skills in English and Portuguese.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team.
Preferred Qualifications
- Professional EHS certification (e.g., NEBOSH Diploma, SAMTRAC).
- Experience with EHS management software systems.
- Knowledge of gas processing or petrochemical industry specific EHS hazards and controls.
- Driver's license with off-road driving experience.
