Job Description
We are seeking a highly motivated and experienced Environmental Consultant with a strong background in mining environmental management to join our team in Enugu. The ideal candidate will possess in-depth knowledge of environmental regulations, impact assessments, and remediation strategies specific to the mining industry. This role requires strong communication, project management, and report writing skills, along with the ability to work both independently and collaboratively within a team. You will be involved in all aspects of environmental consulting projects, from initial site assessments to final report preparation, working closely with clients and regulatory agencies to ensure compliance and sustainable practices. You will play a crucial role in shaping our company’s approach to environmentally responsible mining, contributing directly to the protection of natural resources and the well-being of communities.
Key Responsibilities
- Conducting environmental site assessments and baseline studies for mining projects.
- Preparing Environmental Impact Assessments (EIAs) and Environmental Management Plans (EMPs).
- Developing and implementing environmental monitoring and compliance programs.
- Conducting environmental audits and inspections.
- Preparing environmental reports and presentations for clients and regulatory agencies.
- Liaising with government agencies and stakeholders on environmental permits and approvals.
- Recommending remediation and mitigation strategies for environmental issues.
- Staying current with environmental regulations and best practices.
- Contributing to the development of new business opportunities within the mining sector.
Required Skills
- Master's degree in Environmental Science, Environmental Engineering, or a related field.
- Minimum of 5 years of experience in environmental consulting, preferably within the mining industry.
- Strong understanding of Nigerian environmental regulations and legislation.
- Experience in conducting EIAs and EMPs.
- Proficient in environmental data analysis and report writing.
- Excellent communication, interpersonal, and presentation skills.
- Strong project management and organizational skills.
- Proficiency in GIS software (e.g., ArcGIS) is an advantage.
Preferred Qualifications
- Professional certifications (e.g., Certified Environmental Auditor, etc.)
- Experience with mine closure planning and rehabilitation.
- Knowledge of specific mining processes and environmental challenges.
- Experience working with international mining companies.
